Recent Fraud Crimes in Sandy Springs
Someone withdrew just under $3,000 from a victim's Bank of America account.

- On May 5, a man reported that someone hacked into his account and ran up charges on his credit card from Chase Bank. The charges were made in Cartersville, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois and Franklin Brentwood, Tenn.
- Another Chase Bank account was accessed by an unknown person who called the bank and said he was the victim and wanted to change the address on the credit card to an address in Miami. Someone also tried to raise the limit on the victim’s Lowe’s card but was unsuccessful.
- On May 8, a man reported that his Bank of America account had unauthorized activity on it. Someone withdrew just under $3,000 from the account.
- Also, a man reported that someone applied for a T-Mobile account using the victim’s information but the name Charles Meadows. The victim said he knows someone by that name at his school, Art Institute of Atlanta.
- A woman on Concourse Parkway reported that someone conducted nine unauthorized bank transactions in her company’s Bank of America account. She said just over $4,000 was withdrawn and a credit card was made in the name of Dennis Williams.
On May 9, a man came into the Wells Fargo Bank on New Northside Drive and wanted to cash a personal check for $8,550. He did not have an account at the bank so he was asked for two forms of ID to which he gave a California ID that was fake, and a first Citizen Bank Debit card, which is not ID.

He provided the thumb print. The teller told him he needed to verify some things and called the bank on the check. He asked the suspect his date of birth. The man said, “For security reasons, I won’t reveal that” which is translated to “I’m a crook and you should be going along with this.”

check for over $8,000 cashed. The man then walked out. A witness said a man matching the description, got into a car near the adjacent Waffle House and left in a dark sedan, west on I-285.
It's believed the account on the check that he tried to cash had been set up out of state and other monies from victims had been deposited into that account and subsequent withdrawals were made from it.
