Recycle Christmas Trees On Jan 6 In Sandy Springs

Residents can recycle Christmas trees at two locations in the city as part of the 27th annual Bring One for the Chipper.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — On Saturday, Keep North Fulton Beautiful will offer you a great way to recycle your Christmas tree and enhance the environment. The organization will take part in the 27th annual Bring One for the Chipper initiative from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 6.

Residents can drop off live trees at two locations: Home Depot (near the garden department) at 6400 Peachtree Dunwoody Road in Sandy Springs or the Sandy Springs Recycling Center at 470 Morgan Falls Road.

If you plan to take advantage of this service, you are asked to remove all lights, tinsels and other decorations from the tree. You should also make sure your tree has not been flocked or sprayed with fake snow made from artificial materials. Pike Nursery uses natural, corn-based flocking, which is acceptable at the event.

As part of the statewide Bring One for the Chipper program, the recycling effort helps keep trees out of landfills and the mulch can be used for playgrounds, public beautification projects, wildlife habitat and homeowner landscaping projects. Free mulch from chipped trees will be available upon request by contacting Davey Tree Expert Co. at 770-451-7911 or by filling out this form.

The local event is part of a statewide recycling effort by the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. Statewide corporate sponsors are The Home Depot, 11Alive, and The Davey Tree Expert Company. Since 1991 Bring One for the Chipper has collected more than six million trees and provided over one million tree seedlings to participants. More than 250,000 trees were recycled last year during the program, the state says produces tangible environmental benefits.
