To determine the ranking, ValuePenguin sourced data from 2013 FBI crime statistics by city, the most recent data available. The raw data report included violent crimes and property crimes from all law enforcement agencies that participated in the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting program.
ValuePenguin only looked at cities/towns in the state with populations larger than 5,000. For more details on the methodology, click here.
