Residents Assaulted During Home Invasion: Blotter

The following information was taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department's Weekly Wrap Up.

Editor’s note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department’s Weekly Wrap Up compiled by Capt. Steve Rose, which contains some of the incidents that occurred Oct. 2-5:

Robbery

  • 2800 block of Spring Creek Lane, 30350, 10/5: A 29-year-old man said he and one other occupant of an apartment were asleep just after midnight when two men kicked in the door and assaulted them. Neither victim required medical treatment. The case is under investigation.

  • 6000 block of Sandy Springs Circle, 30328, 10/2: Free-Flite Bicycles' alarm activated around 4 a.m. Officers found a broken window in what appeared to be an unsuccessful attempted burglary. Nothing was taken.
  • 100 block of West Belle Isle Road 30342, 10/5 (Fulton County Housing Authority): Someone kicked in the laundry room door and then attempted to pry the laundry coin machine. It isn’t known if the crook got any coin.

  • 4000 block of Riverview Road, 30339, 10/2: A resident reported that a neighbor returned mail he found on an adjacent road. He believes mail was stolen from his box on or around Sept. 27.
  • 220 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 10/2: A construction employee at the City Springs site reported a Greenlee 855 pipe bender stolen sometime between Sept. 16-18.
  • 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy (LA Fitness), 30328, 10/2: A 30-year old man reported his keys were stolen from his unlocked gym locker and later used to enter his car. His credit cards and $40 cash were taken from his wallet. Two cards were tried at Walmart in Marietta, but both were declined.
  • Chevaux Court, 30342, 10/2: A resident said several packages have been stolen from her mailbox over the past months, including a bracelet valued at over $1,000. She said FedEx delivered a package around 1:45 p.m. and when she returned home at 3 p.m., it was gone.
  • 6600 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, 30328, 10/2: A 36-year-old man reported his 2006 Lincoln Aviator stolen from the parking at the AIU campus.
  • 6035 Sandy Springs Circle, ,30328 10/3: A 33-year-old woman reported she observed a man reach in a partially open window of her car and stole her Neiman Marcus purse and contents. He fled in a gray Infiniti with a red drive-out tag. He was described as a black male, 6 feet tall wearing a loose gray shirt and with short or no hair.
  • 3100 River Exchange Drive, 30350, 10/4: An employee for an apartment complex reported a previous employee stole four Western Union money orders submitted by apartment tenants. Apparently, the suspect convinced two of the tenants to obtain blank money orders and give them to her. The time span goes back to June of this year. The money orders were cashed to the amount of just over $1,500.
  • 5580 Roswell Road (Lifetime Fitness), 30342, 10/4: A 46-year-old man reported that his wallet apparently fell to the parking lot next to his car, which went unnoticed by him until after he exited the gym. Someone found the wallet and turned it into the front desk, minus $1,000 cash and a blank check. His credit cards and ID were still in the wallet.
  • 6350 PDR (Costco), 30328, 10/5: A vendor at Costco, who was working a kiosk, observed a man take frozen crab cakes, enter the lunch room, heat the crab cakes and then ate them all without paying. He was later arrested for shoplifting the crab cakes.

  • 1200 Abernathy Road, 30328, 10/2: Unlocked; Ray Bans, loose change
  • 5400 block of Meridian Mark Dr., 30342, 10/3: Nothing taken
  • 6300 block of Roswell Road, 30328, 10/3: Lunchbox
  • Chemin De Vie,, 30342 10/4: Nothing taken
  • 500 Abernathy Road, 30328, 10/4: Two laptops

Other Things

  • Fraud of the Week: A 68-year-old woman reported that she established an online communication with a man named Lucas Moores, who said he worked on an oil rig. She had been in touch with him since August of this year. Lucas proceeded to tell her that the rig was damaged by the hurricane and they were running out of food for the crew (clue). They needed money to fund a helicopter to deliver food to the rig and crew (screaming clue). He asked for credit card access, which she agreed. $4,000 later she realized she had been scammed when the bank called. The payments went to a person of another name. Capt. Steve Rose says: It is sad when someone is duped like this, but come on. An oil rig is owned by an oil company that supplies the crews with everything they need and in the case of a hurricane, would evacuate the crew.
  • 6300 block of Roswell Road, 30328. 10/3: An employee of Longhorn Steakhouse reported seeing a man checking door handles of cars in the parking lot. A description of a Nissan Altima was given. Street crimes officers in an unmarked car located the vehicle as it left. Officers also witnessed the suspect in the lot and followed his car as he left. A patrol officer located the car on Dalrymple Road and attempted to pull it over however, the driver fled and the officers lost sight of it. They obtained the tag, which was a temporary one. Nothing appeared to be stolen.
  • A 32-year-old man reported a woman assaulted him after he offended her at a restaurant in the
    8000 block of Roswell Road. The incident was recorded on video, which the officer watched, showing the woman, a foot shorter than victim, shove him. The officer declined to arrest the woman for the shove, and the victim was issued a brochure for man camp.

Arrests

  • A woman at 66 Northwood Drive called police around 5 a.m. Oct. 2, telling cops she was assaulted by a man. They located the man and detained him. She told the officers that wasn’t the man. Fortunately, there was video of the assault and sure enough, it was the same guy, hitting her with a closed fist numerous times. She changed her story after being informed of the video. He went to jail.
  • 5570 Roswell Road, 30342, 10/3: Target security watched a man shoplift about $30 in store items, then attempt to leave without paying. He was cited pending a court date on Oct. 30.
