Riverwood Athletes Commit To College Teams
Four students at the school in Sandy Springs will play sports as they embark on their post-secondary education paths.

Four students at Riverwood International Charter School have officially committed to continue their athletic endeavors at the college level.
Senior Lila Best signed a scholarship to swim at the United States Naval Academy. She was recruited for sprint and middle distance free, as well as backstroke and butterfly. The future midshipman’s high school career highlights include:

- 3rd in State in the 500 Freestyle (4:59.38) 2013 1-5A Classification;
- 4th in State in the 200 Freestyle (1:51.63) 2014 1-5A Classification;
- 6th in State 100 Freestyle (52.43) 2014 1-5A Classification;
- 6th in State in the 200 Freestyle (1:52.67) 2013 1-5A Classification
Other achievements: Honor Roll, BETA Club, Interact Club, three-time Scholastic All American, team member and captain of Marietta-based Stingrays Swimming, Sportsmanship award and captain of Riverwood Swim Team.
Lila is the daughter of Cindy and Bob Best of Sandy Springs.

Fellow senior Jalen Miller signed a scholarship to play shortstop for Clemson University’s baseball team. The future Clemson Tiger’s high school athletic career includes the following highlights:
- 2014: All Region 1st Team 7-AAAAA, Riverwood Varsity Baseball-MVP and Player of the Month (March 2014)
- 2013: Rookie of the Year Varsity Baseball
- 2012: Junior Varsity Baseball MVP
Other achievements include being named the 2014 Riverwood Homecoming king, voted Most Athletic by peers and a 2013-14 Honor Roll member. Jalen is the son of Danny and Kim Miller of Atlanta.
Riverwood senior David Peljovich signed a scholarship to pitch for Wake Forest University’s baseball team. The future Demon Deacon’s high school athletic career includes the following highlights:
- Four-year Varsity letterman
- Pitcher of the year in 2012 and 2013 (injured in 2014)
- Pitched in state playoffs in 2012 and 2013
David is a member of the National Honor Society and he is the son of Lori and Allan Peljovich of Sandy Springs.
Senior Davis Vainer signed a scholarship to pitch for the University of Alabama’s baseball team. The future Crimson Tide baseball player says the highlight of his high school athletic career was getting to play on the same team as his older brother.
In addition to playing baseball for the Riverwood Raiders, Davis also played football for Riverwood in ninth and 10th grades.
Other achievements and accomplishments include: played summer ball for the East Cobb Titans, won a world championship in 2013 and played with 643 DP Athletics in 2014; volunteered in the Christopher League, which helps kids with disabilities play baseball; serving as a mentor to a young boy; and working part-time at LifeTime Fitness.
Davis is the son of Lori and Alon Vainer of Sandy Springs.
