Riverwood Community Service Club Hosting 'Run for a Reason'

Proceeds from the Nov. 9 race will support the volunteer projects of the Riverwood Community Service Club, including Habitat for Humanity.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Riverwood Community Service Club (CSC) will hold its fourth annual “Riverwood Runs for A Reason” 5K race on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Riverwood International Charter School.

Proceeds from the race will support the volunteer projects of the Riverwood CSC and will be used to provide materials for work at Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and Heards Ferry Elementary among others. Proceeds will also support supplies needed for the fourth annual Spring Break service trip to Leon, Nicaragua in April 2020. On this trip students will renovate living conditions for families and volunteer in local schools. Water filters will be also be provided for the residents of Leon paid for with proceeds earned from the "Runs for a Reason" race.

In April, nearly 20 Riverwood students traveled to Olancho, Honduras for spring break to help develop the community infrastructure, promote health and wellness to residents, and engage with elementary students. Revenue from the 2018 Riverwood Runs for a Reason provided materials needed for this service trip.

"Traveling to Honduras opened my eyes to the needs of children in other countries. It was the trip of a lifetime," said sophomore, Lily Hodges.

Sponsorships for the Nov. 9 race are available at the $100 and $500 level. $100 donors have logos placed on the event t-shirt, recognition at the school and on race day, and the option to place promotional material in the goodie bags. Donors at the $500 level also receive two race entries, logo placement on the Spring Break trip t-shirt, as well as acknowledgment across Riverwood’s social media platforms. The 5K race begins and ends at Riverwood International Charter School. Registration is $35 ($30 for students and faculty). Race day registration is $40. Register online at Riverwood Runs for a Reason 5k. Runners, walkers, dogs, and strollers are welcome. All pre-registered participants will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag. The race begins at 8 a.m. and check-in runs from 6:45 to 7:15 a.m.
