Riverwood International Charter School Announces REACH Scholars
Leslie Tornez-Cruz and Janelle Tenorio have been selected as Georgia REACH Scholars.

Riverwood International Charter School announces the selection of Leslie Tornez-Cruz (Class of 2020) and Janelle Tenorio (Class of 2019) as REACH Scholars. REACH Georgia selects eligible students who have strong grades, good behavior, and maintain good attendance to receive a scholarship to a college. In addition to maintaining grades, behavior and attendance, students meet regularly with a REACH Mentor and Academic Coach. These students are selected early with the understanding that a scholarship is waiting on them when they finish high school.
9th grader Tornez-Cruz stated that school is very important to her and that everyone should have a chance for an education. “School has helped me very much and without it I would not be successful in life.” She enjoys spending time with family and friends, aspires to attend the University of Georgia and is interested in business and law. “My parents are very helpful and have told me to never give up on my dreams.”

10th grader Janelle Tenorio is interested in Orchestra and Engineering. She states she is a hands on person and always wanted to learn how to code. She is a member of the Robotics Club at RICS. In her last two years of high school, she plans to take AP and IB courses. She hopes to attend Georgia Tech, School of Computer Science or College of Engineering after high school.
In an effort to raise high school graduation rates, REACH Georgia gives support to the selected REACH Scholars beyond guaranteeing a financial scholarship. REACH Scholars are given the academic and social support to ensure they graduate from high-school as well as earn a college degree or certificate. Each scholar who completes all program requirements receives up to $10,000 scholarship that is earmarked upon selection into the program. The Scholar is able to receive up to $2,500 per year for up to four years to be used toward the cost of attendance at a two-or four-year Georgia REACH eligible institution.
