Riverwood To Launch Film Curriculum
The nine week program will start in Riverwood during the spring.

From Riverwood International Charter:Riverwood International Charter School Audio Visual Technology and Film Teacher (AVTF) Dr. J.C. Futrell was one of 30 Fulton County externs to participate in a Georgia Film Academy (GFA) pilot program for high school teachers this past summer. Over the ten days of intensive training, they addressed techniques in film-making, lesson planning, and the End of Pathway prep for AVTF teachers. Now that he has the required 80-hour certification, Futrell plans to roll out the nine-week Film program at Riverwood in the spring.
Developed by industry professionals through GFA, the film program is a standardized film curriculum using professional grade equipment. Riverwood will receive film equipment and prescribed curriculum through GFA. GFA Executive Director Jeff Stepakoff said, “Interest in film is rampant throughout the state. We are addressing that at the college level but starting to get our heads around the high school level. We have two million high school students in our state. They’re making movies; they’re making them on their iPhones. Why are we not bringing them into the fold?”
Dr. Futrell has twice been on the faculty at Riverwood, with his most recent tenure beginning in 2013. He is a member of the Georgia Association of Career Technical Educators and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Shaw University in Radio, TV, & Film. Futrell has a Masters in Education Technology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Leadership, K-12.
