Community Rallies To Help Riverwood Student Who Lost Home In Fire

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Donations are pouring in for a Riverwood International Charter School student and her family who lost their home in a fire earlier this week in Sandy Springs. The school is collecting clothing, toiletries and other essentials for the family of Rosa Moctezuma.

The fire was reported around 9 p.m. Monday, March 26, according to a GoFundMe page set up for monetary donations. The Moctezuma family, which "lost everything" stemming from the fire, is living in the basement of a close family friend.

New and gently used clothing are needed for children, consisting of the Riverwood senior and her younger brother, according to the Riverwood Class of 2018 Facebook page.

Rosa Moctezuma is a "hard-working high school senior" who volunteers at Sandy Springs Mission, Los Niños Primero and several other organizations. Organizers are trying to collect funds to help Rosa's family move forward.

"Rosa always tries her best; she never leaves anything unfinished," according to the GoFundMe page.

As of Thursday afternoon, the campaign has far exceeded its goal to raise $2,500 for the family, as more than $4,400 has been donated to the Moctezumas.

"Before two night(s) ago, Rosa and her family were preparing for her to go to college this coming fall," the page adds. "Please help us help her continue to succeed."
