Riverwood Students Make Athletic Commitments

Skyler de Groot will play football at Elon University while Amira James will play softball at Alabama State University.

Two students at Riverwood International Charter School recently made official commitments to continue their athletic careers at the post-secondary level.

Senior Skyler de Groot signed a scholarship to play football for Elon University. He was recruited to play kicker. The future Phoenix’s high school career highlights include:

  • A 43-yeard field goal with only 30 seconds to go
  • Soccer: Defensive Player of the Year
  • Football: Best record in the region
  • IB diploma candidate
  • Honors society

Skyler is the son of Vicki and Eric de Groot of Sandy Springs.

Additionally, senior Amira James signed a scholarship to play softball for Alabama State University. She was recruited to play outfield. The future Hornet’s high school career highlights include:

  • 1st Team All-region (2014)
  • Captain, MVP and Offensive Player of the Year

Amira is the daughter of Chris and Shade Patterson of south Fulton County.
