Robbery Reported At Sandy Springs Convenience Store: Blotter

Editor's note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department's Weekly Wrap Up compiled by Capt. Steve Rose, which contains some of the incidents that occurred Nov. 23-30:

Robbery

• 8325 Roswell Road, 30350, 11/25 (Exxon): A store clerk said a man came into the store at about 9:30 a.m. and handed him a note that he had a gun and to give him money from the register. The suspect produced a bag. The employee said the man did not show a weapon but had his hand in his pocket as if to be holding one so he placed an undisclosed amount of cash in the bag. The suspect then fled from the door and around towards the Waffle House, located directly behind the store. The suspect is a black male, medium build, moles on his face, who wore a yellow hat, black jacket and faded jeans. He had an orange towel hanging from his back pocket.

Burglary

• 5320 Roswell Road, 30342, 11/23: Between Nov. 22-23, someone attempted to enter the apartment by tampering with the front door lock. It appears the burglar was unsuccessful.
• 5675 Roswell Road, 30342, 11/23: The resident reported that around 8:30 p.m., she made dinner for herself and for her young son. She called him to dinner and, as he walked past a bedroom, he saw a male wearing a mask with his head sticking into the bedroom window. The suspect immediately fled. Several responding officers combed the apartment complex area. One officer, parked in the complex, spotted a man who appeared to be wearing a hoodie covered in dirt. The man’s story changed as to where he was and where he was going. The man said he was at the store and bought some cigarillos, but had none on him. He was later charged with disorderly conduct, loitering and prowling. It is likely this was the same man who tried to enter the apartment.
• Nesbit Reserve Court, 30350, 11/24: A neighbor noticed a garage door open to the home, which was unoccupied by the resident at the time. A window next to the front door was forced and appeared to be the entry point. Inside, the rooms looked rummaged through. It appeared that jewelry, TVs and a vehicle were stolen, according to the initial report.
• 6000 block of Rivercliff Drive, 30328, 11/24: Responding to an alarm around 6 p.m., officers found forced entry on a basement window and two rear porch doors. It appears the burglars left without getting past the basement.
• 600 block of Fair Oaks Manor, 30328, 11/24: The resident reported someone entered the home by forcing an interior garage door (The exterior garage door was left open). A flat screen TV was stolen.
• 100 block of Savannah Estates Drive, 30350, 11/25: A 64-year old resident said a neighbor discovered a broken window on the ground floor. The window appears to have been forced by a lawn ornament.
• 500 block of Greyfield Lane, 30350, 11/26: Someone smashed a window with a hammer and entered the duplex. Officers found dried blood near the window. The resident said he was out of town for several days but arrived home prior to the police response. A PS4 game system and HP laptop were missing. Blood samples were taken and placed into evidence.
• 300 block of Winding River Drive, 30350, 11/26: The resident said she woke at 4 a.m. and found her front door open and Sonos TV missing. Someone forced a window and then apparently exited through a sliding door at the back of the apartment.
• 500 block of Northridge Pkwy, 30350, 11/27: A 21-year-old woman reported she was spending the night with a friend. Her boyfriend texted her, sometime during the night, to say he was sorry but he was going to break into her apartment, which he did. She read the text when she woke. Upon her return, she found a bedroom window screen removed and patio door unlocked. Several items were taken including makeup and sheets.

Thefts

• 300 block of River Knoll Drive, 30328, 11/23: The resident left for the holiday with strict instructions to his friend at the home, forbidding him to drive his car due to his license being suspended. Our officer was contacted by an Atlanta police officer regarding the man, forbidden to drive the car, who was now in the hospital telling the cops his car was carjacked on Parkway Drive, which is just north of Highland Avenue in Atlanta. The car in question, a 2006 Mercury Montego, was documented by Atlanta police earlier in the day for a parking violation in which the passenger in the car was arrested for multiple felonies. Bottom line, the guy took the car anyway and it ended up stolen, meaning the owner, who is in California, has to file the stolen car report.
• 500 block of Northridge Road, 30350, 11/23: A 33-year-old woman reported that her male friend took her car without permission. She said she and the friend argued and she left the apartment to cool down. Upon her return, the car, a 2013 Cadillac SRX, and her cellphone were gone.
• 600 block of Idlewood Drive, 30328, 11/25: A resident said he returned to the address around 4:30 p.m., leaving his 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee unlocked with the keys, key fob and house key inside the vehicle. Just before 7 p.m. he discovered the Jeep was missing.
• 1000 block of Ridge Tarn, 30350, 11/26: A 52-year-old man reported someone stole his golf cart and several tools inside the cart, sometime between 2:30 and 3 p.m.
• A 57-year old man reported he left his room at the LaQuinta on Peachtree Dunwoody Road between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. During that time, he noticed someone had taken a $100 bill from his backpack. The good news is the room was clean.
• 4900 block of Roswell Road, 30342, 11/27: A 35-year-old man said just before 1 a.m. he parked his car outside a store and entered the store for about five minutes, which was long enough for someone to steal the car, left unlocked with the engine running. Capt. Steve Rose says: Come on; at least make it hard for them to steal it.

Other Things

• 5600 block of Kingsport Drive, 30342, 11/27: Around 10:40 p.m., several witnesses phoned in reporting a number of gunshots heard somewhere near Northwood Drive and Kingsport Drive. The 36-year old resident on Kingport said his car was shot up, pointing to a number of gunshots into his unoccupied car’s windshield, front tires and hood area. The 16-year-old son of the car’s owner said there are several teens in the LaVista Road-Buford Highway area who do not like him and have in the past threatened to beat him up. He believes they are involved.
• On Nov. 28, the management at LaQuinta Inn reported they do not want menus for Jo Jo’s
  Wings, left on the property. They said they sent a certified letter to that effect.
• 5630 Roswell Road (Publix), 30342, 11/28: A 39-year-old woman reported that while leaving the store, a man made inappropriate and direct verbal advances to her. She replied she was married and not interested. According to the victim, he called her names and threatened to assault her. The store employees were familiar with the incident and said from what they heard and saw, the victim was screaming “very loudly” at the man who was attempting to ignore her. They added he is a regular customer. Not sure if that skewed their version of the incident or if they caught only the tail end. Capt. Rose: How simple would our lives be if we simply knew when to keep our mouths shut?
• 200 block of River Vista Drive, 30339, 11/28: Cops were called to a condo regarding a man who locked himself in the bathroom due to his female counterpart “acting out.” They were separated for the night.
• Cedar Run, 30350, 11/29: A 46-year old man said he was assaulted when his roommate, recently booted from rehab, strangled him. The report noted that no physical marks were present on the victim’s neck. The roommate was gone on arrival.
• Scam Alert: Jefferson Circle, 30350, 11/29: A 70-year-old woman said she received a phone call that she won a $260 million lottery. Of course, she was told she needed to send money for related cost. Unfortunately, she did and now sits $3,600 poorer. The money was sent by check via FedEx. The person receiving the money identified as Romeo Dawsey of 28th Street, New York, New York. The victim told the officer that she didn’t recall playing the lottery.

Arrests

• I-285 and Glenridge Drive, 30342, 11/23: The driver was stopped after an officer noticed the tag cover was tinted too dark. The man smelled of marijuana to which he said he had a couple of grams, later found and seized. He was charged with the tag violation and the marijuana possession and released on copy of charges pending a court date.
• GA-400 northbound at Spalding Drive, 30350, 11/24: A K-9 officer reported that as he entered the entrance ramp to GA-400, a Nissan passed him “at a high rate of speed.” He followed, and clocked the car at 95-97 MPH in a 55 MPH construction zone. He stopped the car and, on approach, immediately smelled burnt marijuana. The driver said she doesn’t smoke weed and the car was her friend’s. The dog was deployed and alerted on the door and other areas of the car indicating recent smells of marijuana. In the meantime, the officer discovered the driver’s license was suspended for failure to appear. Her record also showed she was arrested in Sandy Springs in October for driving on a suspended license. Open containers of beer were located in the car. She said the beer must be her friend’s, too. She was arrested.
