Crews with the Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Department received the call of a fire around 8:25 p.m. June 6 at Dunwoody Station Apartment Homes on Peachtree Dunwoody Road.

Out of 28 apartment units in Building 100, 27 units and about 60 residents were impacted by the fire, said Sandy Springs Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Mark Duke.

Duke noted the top 12 apartments received heavy fire damage, and the others mostly received some type of water or smoke damage.

“As of this time, our investigators are still working to determine a cause of the fire,” he said. “Additionally, we have confirmed there was an alarm system in place, but we have yet to determine if it activated during the fire.”

Duke added investigative work has been “slow” due to the large amount of debris stemming from the roof collapse and some areas that are still “dangerous” to access.
