The initiative is designed to secure non-perishable food donations for Community Assistance Center’s food pantry.

Led by five volunteers who are in Leadership Sandy Springs’ Class of 2015, Battle of the Bins was born from several brainstorming sessions with CAC in an effort to determine the organization’s greatest needs.

Specifically, the pantry is in need of food during the summer for its Summer Lunch Bag program for area children.

“From research, we knew the food pantry at the Community Assistance Center becomes quite bare during the summer months,” said Stacey Hader Epstein, a member of this years Leadership Sandy Springs class and a volunteer with the drive. “This may be one of the most critical times during the cyclical year for CAC’s clients, as demand increases when schoolchildren are home during those summer months.”

CAC provides assistance to neighbors in need by providing financial support, promoting self-reliance and helping meet basic needs. CAC’s food pantry is just one vital way they do this.

With Battle of the Bins, each participating bank’s customers and employees are encouraged to help collect as many donated food items as possible between April 13 and April 30.

Labeled collection bins will be at each bank.

As part of the competition, the food will be weighed and the winning bank announced at CAC’s annual Food ‘N Fun Festival, which is for Saturday, May 2 at North Springs Charter High School.

Some of the banks participating include:

  • BB&T, 6343 Roswell Road
  • First Citizens Bank, 325 Mt. Vernon Highway
  • Cornerstone Bank, 6344 Roswell Road
  • Signature Bank, 6065 Roswell Road
