Fraud
- Keep in mind folks that this is high tide on fraud cases, from now till past April 15. IRS fraud involving crooks using other’s Social Security numbers on fake returns will increase. How do you prevent it? Good question and I don’t know. Good idea to get your free annual credit report around that time to pick off any questionable items you see, and confirm their status as legit or not. If you do fall victim to this, IRS will require a police report.
- Also, keep in mind the fake calls from the IRS will probably pick up. Remember that IRS do not refer to staff as officers and they are not going to be on the way to arrest you for your money owed, even back tax issues. Know that if you get this call, and the agent on the other end of the phone requests payment via MoneyPak Green Dot Cards, hang up.
- A 21-year old man said he was talking to his friend that he was having problems getting his other friend moved to Atlanta. The friend said he would help financially by giving him just over $2,300. The friend asked for his bank account information, which the victim gave him. The check was deposited. The victim withdrew $2,000 and sent it to his other friend to help with the move. The check came back fraudulent a short time later. He said the friend claims to be a drug dealer and member of the Bloods gang. He attends Georgia Perimeter College. The friend, whose first name is Deandrea, is a black male, 21 years old, 6’0” and 190 pounds.
Other Things
- Cops and EMS responded to the parking lot of 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy on a medical call. They found a man who had overdosed on heroin. The man told EMS that he was having dinner at a restaurant and while in his truck, had injected heroin into his arm. He said he accidentally injected too much. He was taken to Northside Hospital.
- A man on Northwood Drive said another man came to his door and accused him of having a relationship with his girlfriend and as such, he was going to kill him. The victim said the man then left. No gun was seen.
- 700 block of Berrydale Drive, 30328, Feb. 3: Peace and tranquility in the quite village on Berrydale Drive came to a sudden end when a trash can was reported missing. The last known person to see the trash can moved to Virginia in 2015. The alert HOA staff determined the trash can, described as a trash can, was missing and possibly the victim of foul play. Negotiations were initiated with that last known person who saw the trash can. From that, the now persistent HOA staff concerned themselves with the possibility that the trash can was a victim of foul play and that they may never see it again. Neighbors were surprised at the missing trash can with some telling us “Seemed like a normal trash can, never had any complaints or anything that stood out.”
Erring on the side of caution, the now very vigilant HOA staff, perhaps under advice of counsel, informed the former resident and “person of interest” that a police report would be required in order to facilitate a new trash can at the former resident’s location on Berrydale Lane. A call was placed to the Sandy Springs Police Missing Waste Receptacle Unit and a detective placed a secured call to the “person of interest” and a historical document is now in place forever. - A cabbie said he and another cabbie got into an argument over fares. One accuses the other of grabbing him and spitting on him.
Arrests
- 7300 block of Hunters Branch Dr., 30328, Jan. 31: PD units were called just after 2 a.m. after a resident spotted a male walking along the roadway and up into the driveway of his home. The man left the driveway seconds later and continued walking down Hunters Branch Way. On arrival, one of the officers spotted the man near 7275 Hunters Branch Drive. The man fled with the officer in foot pursuit. As he fled, he dropped a yellow bag and large flashlight. The officer caught up and secured the man near the 7200 block of Twin Branch Lane. In the suspect’s possession was an ID of a man who reported it stolen in Dunwoody on the 27th of January. The suspect had mail belonging to another victim of a theft from vehicle some 3 weeks earlier. He had a credit card and school access card for a student and had several Marta Breeze Cards and various membership and gift cards. The bag he dropped was a diaper bag containing baby care items and clothing. The suspect was checked and found he was on probation by Georgia Department of Corrections. The suspect, H.T.
