Sandy Springs Blotter: Juvenile Walks Out On $15 Haircut "Not Done Right"

Editor’s note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department’s weekly Wrap Up, which contains some — not all — of the incidents that occurred Nov. 15-20.

Robbery

  • 5700 block of Roswell Road, 30342, Nov. 16 — Cops responded to a robbery just before 5:30 a.m. The victim, a cabbie, picked up a man in Brookhaven and took him to the Mosaic Apartments at 5675 Roswell Road. The man asked to go to building 35 and upon arrival, the victim was struck in the head by the man who told him in Spanish “I’m going to kill you.” The victim then fled. The suspect took the taxi containing the victim’s wallet and personal effects. The taxi was located a short time later and detectives are following up on leads including similar incidents in Brookhaven.
  • 6000 block of Barfield Road, 30328, Nov. 16 — Officers received a robbery call around 4 p.m. They were told that a man was kidnapped and robbed by two school acquaintances at the area known as the “Hub.”

Burglary

  • 1800 block of Windridge Drive, 30350, Nov. 16 — An employee of Veridian at Sandy Springs Apartments said a TV was taken from the fitness center. The video showed a black male, 5’-8” and about 150 pounds wearing a blue zip up hoodie and jeans inside the fitness center stealing the TV at around 5 a.m. He said the other “student” came in and wanted to take his tablet and demanded his pass code. They “tussled” for a bit before the offender left the room with the victim chasing him. They ran to another room where offender number two was at. Another tussle and the victim said they jumped him, held him down, took his belongings from his pockets, and shaved his head. Long story short: The two offenders were arrested. The really good news here is that the “Hub” is closing shop and “students” are being moved to two other locations, possibly one in Dunwoody and one in Sandy Springs.
  • 8100 block of Colquitt Road, 30380, Nov. 16 — The resident found his front door forced open and discovered his apartment ransacked. Missing are an X-Box Game System and Acer Laptop.
  • Gables Lane, 30328, Nov. 18 — A woman reported someone entered her apartment and took boots and a watch, each valued at $250, and left. She reported that she found her apartment door partially open last week.
  • 200 block of Mt. Paran Road, 30342, Nov. 20 — The victim said she found damage to a window and later discovered that a burglary occurred. CC Video showing that three males were at the location, outside around 10:30 p.m. Around midnight, they entered the building and were gone 15-20 minutes later. All were wearing gloves and had cover over their faces. Several computers were taken from the building.
  • 600 block of Fair Oaks Manor, 30328, Nov. 20 — The resident reported that sometime between 11:30 p.m and 6:15 a.m, someone came into the home and took two phones and a messenger bag that were lying on a chair. A family member said she found two front windows unlocked; one wide open. The stolen items were within view of the window. The victim also said he saw a suspicious car that morning. The car came down the street, turned into a neighbor’s driveway, sat with the lights out for a few, and then left slowly.

Thefts

  • 1700 block of Jefferson Drive, 30350, Nov. 15 — a man reported another man took his car without permission
  • 5335 Roswell Road, 30342, Nov. 15 — A 31-year old woman said she left work last Thursday and forgot to take her coat. She realized it when she got home and called to tell the other employees to stash it until she came back to work. She was informed that the coat was missing. Internal video showed another employee taking the coat. That girl was called and after a couple of fumbling excuses, said she would return it.
  • 5675 Roswell Road, 30342, Nov. 15 — A 26-year old man said someone went into his apartment closet and took $500 cash. During this time, his sister and brother-in-law live with him and apartment maintenance was inside the apartment although he had asked that they wait until he was home.
  • 8100 block of Colquitt Road, 30350, Nov. 16 — A 42-year-old man stunned the world today when he notified police that his Superman hat was stolen.
  • 6649 Roswell Road, 30328, Nov. 16 — Supercuts employees reported that a juvenile male walked out on the $14.95 haircut because it was not done right.
  • 8600 block of Roswell Road, 30350, Nov. 17 — An employee of a drywall company reported that they fired an employee recently for stealing. On review, they found that he had been stealing from the warehouse for a year or longer. The stolen items include scaffolds, lasers, dollys, drills and pole guns.
  • Publix employees at 7525 Roswell Road said on November 17 around 4:30 pm a man took a box of chicken wings and fled from the store after being confronted by loss prevention staff. He left in a black Chevy (tag obtained) with 6-7 other males in the car.
  • 6690 Roswell Road, 30328, Nov. 17 — A man said he was at L.A. Fitness and while he was on the phone, someone took his jacket which he said was left unattended.
  • 800 block of Hammond Drive, 30328, Nov. 17 — The victim said his laptop, amplifiers, pressure washer, drill, and 42-inch TV were taken from the Sheraton Hotel maintenance room.
  • No address reported: A Roswell-area doctor reported that an employee is believed to have stolen a prescription pad containing the doctor’s DEA number and used the prescriptions to obtain Oxycodone and Hydrocodone at area drugs stores including the CVS on Roswell Road.
  • 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, Nov. 18 — Sports Authority employees reported that a man took seven Nike Thermal shirts in his backpack and then ran out of the store. The man was a black male, about 30-35 years old and about 6’-2” with a bald head. He wore a long tan jacket and black pants with Nike shoes.
  • On November 18, a man went to the Kroger Store at 4920 Roswell Road to get gas. As he did so, he left his car doors were open when he was at the pay window talking to the employee. When he walked back to his car, he saw a black male wearing a blue jacket and brown cargo pants parked in a white car next to his. The car abruptly left. The man then discovered his phone and suitcase missing.
  • Publix Store employees at 1100 Hammond Drive said a 60-year old woman took some deli food items and left without paying. They know this woman because she has come into the store with deli food items that she said was not good and demanded a refund. She was stopped outside and the items taken from her. She left in a gray BMW.
  • The owner of the North River Beverage Shop said a man came in and took a bottle of Avion Tequila and then left. The owner suspected the man of this previously and had recorded a photo of the man’s tag number.

Fraud

  • A 74-year old woman was contacted by police in Conyers and told they had arrested a man who had taken her Sears MasterCard information while she was at the Sandy Springs Home Depot. He used the card number in Conyers. They asked her to make a fraud report with SSPD in order to prosecute the man with additional charges.
  • Bank of America called SSPD after they spoke with a woman wanting to cash a check for just under $700. The bank checked and found that the person on the account had placed a fraud alert on November 4. The woman hurriedly left the location and got into a red sedan occupied by two black males and left the parking lot.
  • 1000 block of Jefferson Drive — A man said he was in the process of applying for a job when he was asked about his arrest record. He checked and found that someone had used his name during a 1999 arrest in Fulton County. The mug shot associated with the man was not the victim.
  • A man reported that he applied for a job online. He was hired by a company whose contact person was “Robert” who said he would send a check for $2500 to him. He did so and the complainant put the check into his account. After a couple of days, “Robert” called back asking the complainant to send $1650 back to him. The complainant said he would not until the check cleared. The complainant later found the check was no good.

Assault

  • Roswell Road and I-285 — A woman called the cops just after 3 am and reported that she and another woman and man were in a car returning from “Hangovers” bar on Roswell Road. During that time, the victim, in the back seat, was punched in the face by the woman in the front seat. She was punched a few times and then kicked out of the car by the man. She walked to the Shell Store with injuries consistent with her story. Cops found her sitting on the floor, drunk and crying. During this time inside the store, she threw some store items around. Apparently her injuries were not severe enough for transporting to the hospital. She told the officer that the other woman was mad and accused her of dating her boyfriend.
  • 5690 Roswell Road — n employee of Metro PCS Phone Store said a man came in just before 11 am. The man was asking about specials on phones. During that time, the man became verbally aggressive and started arguing with the employee who then asked the man to leave. The man then head-butted the employee causing the employee to retrieve his pistol. The man then left. The suspect is an Asian male in his 30’s.
  • On November 20, the folks at Costco were stunned to find and later report that two employees got into an argument resulting in one kicking the other’s leg. Film at 11.

Arrests

  • On November 13, Specialized Investigation Officers (SIU) conducted a knock and talk at 5555 Roswell Road following a tip involving the sale of marijuana. A subsequent search warrant was executed yielding approximately 40 grams of marijuana and $5000 currency. Oxycodone and Xanax pills were also taken in the search. A male and female were taken into custody following the search warrant. They are charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. One of the suspects told officers that she sells marijuana, “Molly” and LSD to her “circle of friends.”
  • 8725 Roswell Road — Publix Store staff called police after detaining a man take and conceal a bottle of Biotin. He was later charged and released pending court.
  • 400 block of Hunters Crossing — Two men were arrested after a caller said the men were sitting in a car outside the residence at about 3 am. Cops found the men sleeping in the car. One of the men tried to bolt but was caught and wrestled to the ground by a second officer. Both were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Obstruction.
  • A woman was arrested at Costco on November 17 and charged with shoplifting $59 worth of lunchmeat.
  • 100 block of Treelodge Pkwy — Cops were called around 11:30 am to an apartment where they were told the following: The victim and the witness came to the apartment so the witness could use the shower. The victim and the offender, who share the apartment, are in a relationship. Apparently the offender believed the victim and witness are having a relationship so the he, the offender (still following me?) hid in the closet before the two came in. As the witness was showering, the offender burst from the closet armed with a knife in his hand and a gun in his waistband. He waved the knife around and managed to cut both men on their fingers (not life threatening) and apparently tried to pull the gun from the waistband but unfortunately for him, the gun fell on the floor. (You have to practice stuff like that.)
    The victim and witness fled the location, followed by the offender, still waving the knife. As the two men entered the victim’s car, the offender tried to slash the tires with the knife but couldn’t do so. (You have to practice that stuff too.) The offender was later arrested.
  • 5610 Roswell Road — A man was detained and arrested after Target employees watched him take $234 in store items and attempt to leave the store without paying. The most expensive item was a $75 bottle of Acqua Di Gio by Armani.
  • 1100 Hammond Drive — Store employees detained a man for shoplifting store items totaling $49. He was arrested.
