Sandy Springs Blotter: Man Reportedly Exposed Himself at Library

Robbery

- 8000 block of Adair Lane, 30350, Jan. 3: A couple said they were let off by a cab just before 2 a.m. As they walked home, they were met by two men described as black males, who pulled a gun and demanded the victim’s items (not listed on this page). The suspects were said to be in their twenties and wore dark clothing.
- A 22-year old man said he was robbed by two men while jobbing on Roberts Drive near Pride Place, which is in the area of Sandy Springs Middle School. He was jogging at 1:30 a.m. He was approached by two black males who pulled a gun. They took his cellphone, keys, and ran off.
Burglary
- 200 block of North Mill Road, 30328, Jan. 1: The resident was informed the home alarm activated and once home she discovered the front door forced open. A 65-inch TV, modem, and some jewelry were taken.
- 800 block of Calibre Springs, 30342, Jan. 3: The resident found that between Dec. 21 and Jan. 3, someone entered his apartment through a bedroom window. Missing are a box of checks and a sixty-inch Sharp TV #A308813625 still in the box.
- 8300 block of Roswell Road, 30350, Jan. 4: A groundskeeper for the Pointe at Canyon Ridge called police after he found a door to one of the apartments forced open. The apartment was empty. Several drug-related items were located in the apartment. The persons on the lease were not yet contacted at the time of the report.
- A 33-year old woman who lives in the 8100 block of Colquitt Road reported Jan. 4 that someone entered her apartment and took a 42-inch TV. She said her back sliding door has not been closing properly and may have been the point of entry.
- 8000 block of The Fifth Green, 30350, Jan. 5: The resident said she arrived home about 5 p.m. and discovered that her home had been entered by unknown persons. Taken were silver items and jewelry.
- 100 block of Hampton Drive, 30350, Jan. 5: A neighbor called and said he lives in the apartment next to the victim’s. He heard a loud noise and looked over to see that a black male, skinny, wearing a black and white jacket, was throwing a safe over the railing to the ground below. The suspect also had a laptop in his arms. The man then fled, running south through the parking lot.
- 1100 block of Hammond Drive, 30328, Jan. 5: The victim said he was gone from 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. at which time he discovered his door had been forced open. He reported an iPod, 10-inch Samsung Tablet, and a Bose Speaker were missing.
- 800 block of Brandywine Circle, 30350, Jan. 7: An 84-year old man reported that some coins from a coin collection were taken from his home sometime between Dec 27 and Jan. 5. He suspects his ex-girlfriend.

- 6690 Roswell Road (LA Fitness), 30328, Jan. 2: The victim was at the LA Fitness Gym and reported that his jeans were stolen from his locked locker. They contained about $40 cash, ID and credit cards. The locker was locked with a combination lock.
Capt. Steve Rose with the Sandy Springs Police Department says: Combination locks are the lowest on the food chain of locks if such a thing exists. Get a solid padlock, pin the key to your fashionable workout clothing and rest assure yourself that you’ve listened to me in the past and know not to take anything of value inside the gym. - 5610 Roswell Road, 30324, Jan. 2: Target employees reported that a female shoplifted just under $700 in items, including a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner.
- 8725 Roswell Road, 30342, Jan. 2: The manager of the AT&T Store said an iPhone 6 was stolen by two suspects who entered the store. One appeared to distract the employee by talking to him. They soon left which was when the manager noticed the theft. Suspect one is s black male, 6’2”, and 215 pounds with long dreads. His teeth were all gold and he wore blue jeans, black hoodie, and black hat. The second suspect was a black male, 5’10” about 220 pounds and who wore a red and white striped short sleeve shirt. The value of the phone is $650.
- A 45-year-old woman reported that on Jan. 4 she left her iPhone at the Blue Moon Pizza. When she went back, it was gone. Employees said they did not see the phone.
- A 39-year-old woman said her iPhone was stolen from the doctor’s building at Meridian Mark Road Jan. 5. She suspects a recent patient and her partner. She said the partner, a male, was walking around the nurse’s station suspiciously and soon after, her phone went missing. The phone’s GPS showed it to later be on South Hairston Street in south DeKalb County.
- 8813 Roswell Road, 30328, Jan. 4: The manager of the Family Dollar Store said a box of cigarettes, left for him on his office desk, was stolen. The video showed a black male walking around the store as if shopping. The man then disappeared into the office for a few seconds and then left out the back door, unsecured. The door was left open and not alarmed due to deliveries.
- 6900 block of Roswell Road, 30328, Jan. 4: A 27-year-old man told officers that he allowed his ex-boyfriend into the home to do some work. The ex said he “would have a surprise for him” upon his return. When he returned, the door was locked. After he got into the residence, he found that his fifty-five inch TV, red Giuseppe Sneakers, a Louboutin Wallet and his dog were missing.
- 700 block of Gettysburg Drive, 30350, Jan. 4: A man reported that his friend’s boyfriend, stole and pawned his Fender Sonoram Guitar. The victim, who is not involved with the female, said he thinks they both pawned it for cash.
- 8610 Roswell Road, 30350, Jan. 4: A woman said that while she was having dinner at Tony’s Sports Bar, someone stole her iPhone. She said she suspected a man named Mr. Brown, but he denied it.
- 6445 Roswell Road, 30328, Jan. 5: An employee said around 1:30 a.m. a man ate $12 in food and attempted to leave without paying. He did allow the employee to copy his name and date of birth from his license, then left in a silver or tan pickup truck.
- 6400 block of Glen Oaks Lane, 30328, Jan. 6: The resident said that she was contacted by her maid service and told that an employee had been arrested for theft from another client. Upon learning this, she checked her jewelry and found six items, from different areas of the master bedroom and bathroom, missing. The loss will be investigated in connection with the other thefts.
- 3000 block of Queen Anne Court, 30350, Jan. 7: A 54-year-old woman called police and told them she found an extension cord plugged into one of her patio electrical outlets. The cord led to another condo. The condo is not lived in permanently however there was a TV, video games, air mattress, and some clothing articles, indicating someone was using the condo. The owner of the condo only occasionally comes to check on it.
- 5200 block of Glenridge Drive, 30342, Jan. 8: The resident said at some point between Dec. 1-25, someone stole $5400 in jewelry from her home.

Fraud
- A 41-year-old woman reported someone used her personal information to open an account with Direct TV. The address given on the account was Jackson View Road in Suwanee. The account was never activated prior to the discovery of the fraud.
- A 73-year-old woman said she mailed a check to AT&T for payment on her account. At some point, someone intercepted it, forged it and deposited it into another account in the amount of $500. She also learned that six other checks, also for $500 each, were deposited into the same account in the name of Jacob Butler. Jacob Butler’s name appeared again Jan. 4 regarding nine checks made out to Butler from the account of a man on Pauley Place. The forged amount was $5,100.
- 500 block of Calaveras Drive, 30350, Jan. 2: The 46-year-old complainant said she received a phone call just before 1 p.m. from someone saying they were DEA agents who had an arrest warrant for her for using a Canadian online pharmacy. They wanted $2,500 via a Green Dot Card. The complainant said she heard what sounded like a police radio in the background. She then told her husband to call 911 and the caller hung up.
- A woman applied for a job on Craigslist. She was contacted by a company representative who said she was hired as an assistant to Mr. James Watkins from HKLL and Co. He would forward her a check to “purchase office supplies.” (See where this is going yet?) He sent a $2,450 check. She deposited same. She was told to keep some, but send $1,836 to a Mr. Jackson Smith via Western Union. She did. She was soon contacted by the bank and told the original check was fake.
Assault
- 5675 Roswell Road, 30342, Jan. 1: A man said another man hit him while they were arguing over a dog. Alcohol was involved.
- 8000 block Roswell Road, 30350, Jan. 2: A men’s medical clinic employee called and reported that a patient came into the office and demanded a refund of the $4,190 he spent on some guy-stuff treatment. The complainant told officers that he tried to explain the refund policy but the man demanded to see the doctor. Then, according to the complainant, the offender grabbed him by the shirt and hit him in the face. The complainant then stood up, and hit the offender. The offender had a swollen eye and some blood on his lip. No charges were brought up on the offender. The officer issued a criminal trespass warning to the offender who was allowed to leave.
Other Things
- From our friends at Roswell PD: On Jan. 5 at 11:41 p.m., I, officer S.P. Thompson, was dispatched to 575 Old Holcomb Bridge Rd (La Quinta) in reference to a mental health consumer. I spoke with the front desk clerk who stated she needed removed from the property. She caused a scene in the front lobby and called the clerk “demon” and accused her of only placing him in rooms with demonic numbers. The clerk advised that had also been moved to about 15 different rooms. She was told to leave and left without incident.
- An employee of the Concourse Athletic Club reported that an employee was fired Dec. 31 and since that time, the employee has sent several text messages with implied threats to cause physical harm, etc.
- 5610 Roswell Road, 30342, Jan. 3: Target employees reported a man purchased $160 in items, paying with counterfeit money. The only lookout given was that of a black male.
- A 39-year-old woman reported that a text, of someone’s male genitals, was sent to her cellphone. She was not familiar with the number it was sent from.
- A 29-year-old woman told police she and her boyfriend have been receiving text messages from a man named Trevor. Trevor was in jail in November and believes the woman and boyfriend stole his marijuana plants while he was in the slammer. The text messages were abusive, accusatory and threatening. One text read “Us ATL drug dealers stick together, watch your back, coming for you.”
- 395 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, Jan. 7: A 23-year-old woman reported that she was at the Sandy Springs Library just after 5 p.m. While there, she noticed a man staring at her. She got concerned so she moved to another section of the library. He followed and continued to stare. At this time, she said she had been avoiding eye contact with him but when she did look, he had unzipped and was exposing and touching himself. She then notified an employee. She left and got into her car. The man, still inside, exited the library and got into a white GMC Van. The tag number was obtained. The suspect is a black male, 5’-6” and around 200 pounds with a short afro hair style. He wore a gray sweater and jeans.
Arrests
- 6360 Roswell Road, 30328, Jan. 1: Cops got a call to meet with a cabbie just before 7 a.m. He told the officers that the man who was drunk and in the taxi, refused to pay. The officers spoke to the man who claimed the cabbie stole his ATM card therefore he couldn’t pay. The officers found a couple of credit cards in the man’s wallet and even searched the cab for an ATM card however they did not find it. The man said he would not pay and told officers that he had tried to do the right thing, adding: “Next time, I’ll just drive and kill someone and it will be your fault.” Soon he was in jail.
- A woman and her brother were kicked out of the Taboo 2 Bar on Roswell Road just after 3 a.m. During that time, she got into an argument with the off-duty sheriff’s deputies at the door, claiming she left her watch inside. During that argument, she told them she was a Roswell and Fulton County police officer. They questioned her specifically about that and called police. The officers confirmed that she was a former Roswell police officer who resigned following an internal investigation in 2014. She was later charged with Impersonating a Police Officer.
- 6300 Powers Ferry Road, 30327, Jan. 1: Cops were called to the Mardi Gras Club regarding a man who fell and broke his ankle. He was being treated by EMS when the officers arrived. The man, who was intoxicated, said he stepped into an argument between two other people in order to assist one who was apparently the non-aggressor. During that time, fighting began, someone’s tooth got chipped, and this guy ended up on the pavement with a broken ankle. He was taken to the hospital and charged (on copy) with affray, meaning he got into a fight.
- 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy (Sports Authority), 30328, Jan. 1: Loss prevention staff observed a woman take $156 in items and then attempt to leave without paying for them. She was charged with shoplifting.
- Officers were called to a domestic fight in the 1700 block of Spring Creek Lane around 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day. The 48-year-old male told officers his girlfriend of 2 years was intoxicated and mad at him resulting in a thrown wine glass that grazed him and leaving him with a small laceration on his cheek. The female was apparently angry because she saw, on his phone, that he was registered on a dating website and therefore cheating on him. The female was later arrested.
- 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, Jan. 3: Cops arrested a man at the Tilted Kilt Restaurant at around 1:30 a.m. after he refused to pay his $21 tab. He told the officers he paid it but failed to show any proof. He was asked to call someone to pay it or otherwise settle. He could or would not. He was arrested. Alcohol was involved.
- 1100 block of Hammond Drive, 30328, Jan. 3: A woman reported that she was sleeping when she heard a noise outside her apartment. She went to the source of the noise and found that her forty-two inch TV was gone. She called 911. During the time officers were on the scene, two bystanders said they were approached by a man wanting to sell TV to them. The man was a construction worker. The contractor was notified and later produced a worker who the officer spoke with. The man denied trying to sell the TV but his stories were ever-changing. The contractor later said he spoke with someone who knew more about the suspect and stolen items. He told the officers that the suspect, now known as Jose Arturo Geminiano Garcia, wanted to sell him a TV, iPad, watches, Blue Ray player, and other items. The man said he gave the suspect a ride to a pawn shop but they would not buy the items. When he returned with the suspect, he saw the police cars, got nervous, and kicked the offender out of his truck. Garcia later admitted to stealing the items and took officers to a bottom floor vacant apartment where he stashed them. He was arrested for burglary.
- I-285, 30328, Jan. 6: Following an accident, one of the drivers was found to have a suspended license for non-compliance regarding child support court orders. His car was impounded. While checking the car for inventory purposes, the officer found some marijuana in the car as well.
- 8725 Roswell Road, 30350, Jan. 7: Publix security employees arrested one man following a shoplifting incident. The man was detained and later arrested for stealing a frozen pizza, lighter fluid, and cold tablets all totaling just over $17.
- 5665 PDR, 30342, Jan. 7: Officers were called to St. Joseph’s Hospital on a drunken and disorderly man who was being detained. The man had been at the hospital, acting disorderly earlier in the day and was told to leave. He was given a Marta pass and told to hit the road. He left, returned, and then returned to the hospital and refused to leave. He was arrested. Alcohol was involved.
