Sandy Springs Blotter: Man Robbed at Gunpoint of Clothes, Phone

Sandy Springs, GA -- Editor’s note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department’s weekly Wrap Up compiled by Capt. Steve Rose, which contains some — not all — of the incidents that occurred Feb. 13-18:

Arrests
- 1001 Johnson Ferry Road, 30342, 2/13: Peachtree City PD requested assistance on a wanted person at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. A PCPD detective, following up on a separate case found an active probation violation warrant on an individual. The officer arrived and arrested him. The report mentioned that the subject was a big guy requiring two sets of handcuffs.
- Next door at Northside Hospital, security and the off-duty SSPD officer found a man sleeping in the lounge area. That man was checked and found to be wanted in Cobb County on probation for larceny.
- 1500 Huntcliff Village Ct., 30350, 2/13: Officers were called to the fitness center of the apartment complex regarding juveniles smoking marijuana in the bathroom. They were located and distributed to their respective parents after being charged with possessing the marijuana.
- GA 400/Abernathy, 30328, 2/13: Just before midnight, a patrol officer noted a car stopped in the right lane of travel. He walked to the car and spoke with a 21-year-old woman who was crying. She said that her boyfriend stopped the car and walked away. The officers saw bruising and scratches on the woman and later determined the boyfriend had assaulted her. The pair lived nearby. The woman was given a ride home at which time the boyfriend showed up. He was arrested at the scene and taken to jail.
- 8200 Dunwoody Place, 30350, 2/14: Officers were called to the QT Store regarding an assault. They located a 33-year-old woman who was bleeding from the face and crying hysterically. EMS was called and responded. Witnesses said the woman was assaulted by a male who had left the location running towards Roberts Drive. The suspect was identified as the victim’s fiancé. At some point, in the car, both parties began to argue and the suspect fiancé, slapped her. The violence increased to a point where he then struck her in the face causing the injury. The fiancé suspect, now called coward, said to the woman after beating her that he wasn’t going to jail, then ran away—something he wasn’t very good at because another officer located him hiding in some bushes (see “coward”) and plucked him out, cuffed him and placed him in the police car. He was later charged with battery related to domestic violence.
- 7700 block of Colquitt Road, 30350, 2/14: Around 4 a.m. officers met with a cabbie who said four passengers absconded after giving them a ride to the apartment complex with a fare of $40. The driver pointed out the approximate location and officers checked several apartments until they found the apartment the offender had run to. The offender opened the door but would not talk to the officers. They remained at the scene and initiated the report process with the victim, causing aggravation to the offender who opened the door, stepping outthreatening him. He was then taken into custody.
- 355 Hammond Drive, 30328, 2/14: An officer checked a business around 9 a.m. and came into contact with a subject whom he knew had an active warrant on him. The man was arrested on the warrant.
- 6751 Roswell Road, 30328, 2/14 (staggering man call just after 7 p.m.): Cops arrived and found a white male staggering on the sidewalk near Foxcroft Condos. The cops asked for his address in hopes of getting him home but instead, the man called them bad words, wishing someone would shoot (the cop) in the head and then violate his children. So.....well so he was arrested for public drunkenness.
- 7525 Roswell Road 30350 2/15Publix security detained a woman after observing her concealing items in her green eco-friendly shopping bag. She paid for some but not all of the items in the bag. She was given a copy of charges with a court date to appear on shoplifting charges.
- 5570 Roswell Road (Target), 30342, 2/16: Security watched as a woman placed items in her purse and then tried to leave without paying. Five containers of Similac baby formula, valued at $95 were recovered. She was arrested (That stuff is expensive).
- 7840 Roswell Road, 30350, 2/16: A man came in to get a permit to serve alcohol at his job. The background check showed he was wanted on a warrant. He was arrested for a probation violation.
Assault

- Feb. 13: An 18-year -old woman on Spalding Drive told officers that she was living with the offender and his baby’s mama for the past few months. The offender got angry at her one evening and hit her in the face with his open hand, known as a slap, and ordered her out.
- 4600 block of Roswell Road, 30342, 2/13: A 20-year-old woman said her ex-boyfriend came to her workplace and hit her in the face. This took place in the parking lot and was over possession of a phone and content.
- 66 Northwood Drive, 30342, 2/14: A 19-year-old man said someone came up from behind and hit him on the head, pulled a gun, and took his jeans and hoodie from him, along with the man’s MARTA card, ID and phone. The victim was left with only his underwear. The suspect was a black male, about 5’-10,” skinny, and wore a red bandanna over his face. The victim said a second suspect stood nearby.
Larceny
- 6810 Roswell Road, 30328, 2/13: A woman reported that a woman named “Lia” came into her business and requested to receive eyelash services, costing $99. She paid only $44 and said she would pay the balance when her ride got there. She later absconded without paying. Capt. Steve Rose with Sandy Springs police said: Not knowing what eyelash services consisted of, I decided to investigate. I hit up “Yelp” and found “Cheap Eyelash Extensions.” I found one in Sandy Springs, not the victim’s location, and read the review: “I’ve been an extremely loyal client of ( ) for the past year and a half, as I’ve been absolutely ADDICTED after getting the royal treatment from Paige during my first full set back in March 2012 (I go monthly for touch-ups.)” Just as I thought. It was addicting. This makes sense. I’ve seen certain people, mostly female, who have lashes so long you can feel the wind when they blink. First sagging pants and now this?
- 8745 Roswell Road, 30350, 2/14: A man left his iPhone 6 at McDonalds after forgetting it. He returned and it was gone. The victim told officers he had a minor altercation with another person during that time and suspected him of taking it. The phone’s GPS showed it in the 300 block of Winding River Drive, nearby, before going offline. He described the suspect as a black male, short, scrawny, wearing a green hoodie, jeans and black shoes.
- Baby’s R Us, 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 2/15: Two men entered the store around 5:15 pm. One appeared to distract the employee while the other filled a shopping cart and fled out the front door. The other man then ran out the door. Suspect one: Black male, 5’-7” 220, black hoodie and black pants. Second suspect: Black male, 6’-0” 180, bald on top, dark jacket and green shirt, both last seen in a gray Chevy Malibu or Cobalt, driven by a black female.
- Calibre Springs Way, 30342, 2/16: A man was moving out and hired a cleaning service to clean the apartment for him. He let them use his Hoover Wet Vacuum to do a cleaning and apparently they took it with them.
- 7555 Roswell Road, 30350, 2/17: Nalley Ford reported three GA dealer plates were stolen.

Burglary
- 200 block of Northwood Drive, 30342, 2/13: Someone entered the apartment through a sliding door, took two watches valued at $40 total, then left through the front door.
- 600 block Hampton Drive, 30350, 2/14: Someone forced the victim’s apartment door open sometime in the early evening, after 5 pm while the victim was gone for only a few minutes. Apparently the burglar entered the apartment but was confronted by a small but aggressive dog, and left without taking anything.
- 200 block of Elden Drive, 30342, 2/14: New construction residence. Someone entered (no force) and removed a Kitchen Aid Microwave Oven.
- 5400 block of Mt. Vernon Pkwy, 30328, 2/16 (Construction site) Two furnaces, valued at $15,000 total, were taken from a home under construction. Another furnace from a nearby home, also under construction, was taken as well.
- 600 block of Highland Park Trail, 30350, 2/16: The resident returned home to find that her front door had been kicked open. A gun was taken. A second and third burglary was reported in the same complex.
- 1000 block of Brentwood Way, 30350, 2/17: The resident said someone came into his apartment and took a PS4 video game system and other video accessories. He said he suspected a man whom he met online through a phone app used to locate sex partners. Apparently one of the contacts showedother man took the items and fled.
- Spalding Trail, 30350, 2/17: Someone entered the victim’s home and took a 42” TV and a gun from a gun safe.
- 6200 block of Aberdeen Drive, 30328, 2/17: The resident found a sliding door open and evidence that a prying tool was used. The house was ransacked and the resident reported some collector coins missing.
Other things
- On Feb. 14, around 8 p.m., a man on Spring Creek Lane called and said he accidentally shot a bullet through his ceiling. Fortunately it did not penetrate the apartment above whose residents were home but said they did not hear a gunshot.
- A man on Hammond Drive reported that he got a call from IRS saying that they were an agent and a warrant had been issued for him for $7,900 in back taxes. They were going to arrest him but would call off the warrant if he paid $3,500. He went to the bank, got the money, and sent it to a Wells Fargo account in Dallas, TX. It was after this that he realized he had been scammed.
