Sandy Springs Blotter: Suspect Flees Police During Car Chase

Thefts

  • 350 Winding River Drive, 30350, Aug. 8: Just before 11 p.m. an officer, patrolling an area where frequent criminal activity occurs, spotted a car parked behind a building. The car, a Nissan Rogue, was occupied. He ran tag which came back as a stolen Ford Expedition from Atlanta, taken on July 25. At that time the car started up and drove out of the complex to Roswell Road. The officer followed, hit the blue lights, sending the car faster north on Roswell, across the river, into the historical, fashionable and upscale Roswell. They car turned right onto Oxbo Drive and some other streets, where it got away from sight of the pursuing officers. They found the car wrecked and abandoned on Grove Way and Myrtle Street. In the car they found some Corona Beer, Sky Peach Vodka, just under 3 grams of crack-cocaine, and a L.A. Lakers hat. The Nissan was not listed as stolen and registered to a Nissan dealer in Morrow, GA. The suspect is at large.
  • 6627 Roswell Road, 30328, 8/8: A woman reported her yellow Apple iPhone 5C stolen from the Hair Town Beauty Store. She left it accidentally on the counter and left, remembered, and returned. The phone was gone. The phone’s GPS showed it on Cherry Tree Lane. The resident there, said she had no knowledge of the phone.
  • 5675 Roswell Road, 30342, 8/10: Two AC units were taken from the Mosaic Apartments.
  • 7800 block of Jett Ferry Road, 30350, 8/10: The victim was doing yard work and reported the following stolen from his work trailer: Stihl Weed eater, backpack blower, edger, and a trimmer, all Stihl products. This happened just after 2:30.
  • 5590 Roswell Road, 30342, 8/10: A 32-year-old man said he placed his phone in his locker, left unlocked, at the Lifetime Fitness Club, while he showered. He returned and discovered the phone had been stolen.
  • 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 8/11: A man reported he had his wallet with him while lifting weights. He placed the wallet down while he lifted, then a short time later, found that someone went in it and took $178 cash. No witnesses.
  • 780 Johnson Ferry Road, 30342, 8/13: A company representative reported that someone stole an AT&T modem/server, valued between five and ten-thousand dollars, from the business that is going through a renovation. She said a moving company was doing work inside the business. She added that the surveillance “mysteriously” stopped working. She said the moving company will not return calls to them.
  • 805 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 8/13: A man reported he and other workers were doing construction at the Holy Innocent’s school addition when they noticed a man described as a black male, wearing a hard hat and vest. The complainant said this was suspicious because the crew were not required to wear hard hats on this site for the past few weeks. They watched the guy go into one of the trucks and took out a hammer drill and put it in his back seat. They then approached the suspect and more or less cornered him. The suspect took the hammerdrill, gave it back to the construction workers, got into the car described as a Lexus, and then left, driving east on Mt. Vernon Hwy. They obtained the tag. The attempted theft is under investigation.
  • 100 block of North Mill Drive, 30328, 8/13: 59-year-old man said someone stole two bikes, a GT All-Mountain Bike and black Specialized Vellez Road Bike from a storage room attached to his home. The room is on the 2nd floor of the home so the access had to be made from the back screened-in porch. The value of the bikes was just over $2,300.

  • 8398 Roswell Road, 30350, 8/12: A 24-year-old woman said she suspects her ex-boyfriend of coming into her home while she was gone and taking her hat, shoes, mirror, soap, and worst of all, toilet paper.
  • 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 8/13: Just before 3 a.m., someone threw a rock into the glass window of the Stein Mart. The suspects were after Michael Kors purses, sitting on a display rack. They grabbed the purses but they were wired together attached to the display. The offenders did grab clothing and left. The suspects: 1. Black male, gray hoodie, dark pants, black shoes. 2. Black male, black t-shirt, face covering. 3. Black male, red ball cap, black and white long-sleeve shirt and jeans. 4. Black male, red ball cap, white t-shirt, yellow pants and white shoes.
  • Parkgate Drive, 30350, 8/13: The victim returned home and found her apartment ransacked. A back window was open and back door unlocked. Missing are two laptops and a gold watch.
  • 6000 block of Aberdeen Drive, 30328, 8/13: The resident reported a Roto-Tiller was stolen from his carport sometime between the 12th and 13th
  • 5501 Glenridge Drive, 30342, 8/13 (9:30 a.m. to 11:52 p.m.): The resident said while he was at work, someone came into his apartment, front door forced, and took several guns.

Assault

  • A 22-year-old man reported that he was at Flasher’s Strip Club around 2 a.m. and was in the back room with a dancer, receiving a lap dance. During that time, he was assaulted by a black male who hit him in the head with a gun, knocking him out. He came to and said at that time he was told the suspect was the dancer’s boyfriend. He and his friend, who was in the front room and did not witness the assault, got in their car and noticed they were followed by a gold Ford Taurus for more than an hour while they tried to lose it. They then drove to the victim’s home and called the police. The victim described the dancer as a white female, blond hair, half-shaved head. He paid fifty bucks for the dance.
  • 4735 Roswell Road, 30342, 8/9: A 40-year-old pizza delivery man said a brick was thrown through his window, and his car was shot at,around 2:30 p.m. while he was at the Park 225 Apartments. He said the suspects were two black males, dreadlocks, and on foot inside the complex. He said he delivered a pizza and two (suspects) men were sitting on the stairs in front of the apartment. One suspect said something to him about brushing by him. The victim said they shouldn’t be sitting on the stairs then. The man got in his car and said he then heard a sound like a firecracker. He observed the same two, one of whom had a brick, and who threw it into his windshield, then ran. Officers checked the area and spoke to residents and came up with some names of possible suspects. That incident is under investigation.

Other Things

  • A 25-year-old man on Roberts Drive said he’s receiving threats from a former friend. The suspect said he has a license to kill him and will show up to do same.
  • A man reported that someone set up an Instagram account in his name using his personal information including phone, home address, and real name. The profile says he’s looking for a partner, requesting potential partners to contact him. The victim said he had a recent falling out with his former roommate and believes he is the suspect.

Fraud

  • A 73-year-old man reported that between July 18-31 his credit card (Macy’s AMX) number was used at the Home Depot on PDR, 27 times, totaling $8,414.
  • A man reported that 10 driver’s licenses were sent to his mailbox. The licenses were of different namesbut contained the same DL number and address of Pinetree Drive, in Columbia, SC. They were taken in as evidence.
  • A 60-year-old woman said she was contacted on the phone by someone claiming to be Lt. James Marshall with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, who let he know that a warrant was in effect for her for contempt of court and failure to appear in Judge Bedford’s court. He instructed her to go to Kroger and get two Blue/Orange Recharge Cards and put $900 on each. He needed to stay on the phone the whole time with her and urged her not to call or speak to anyone about this. He said mail them to Nancy Clark at 136 Pryor Street in Atlanta (Fulton Sheriff’s Department). He requested the card numbers so the matter could be paid immediately and warrants dismissed. Unfortunately she did so. She called him back and he confirmed he received the money, but said there was another warrant and needed another $900. She refused. She later called the police.
  • Another resident, on the same day, received a similar call from the same name and department, but this victim didn’t take the bait. She refused to provide information to him.
  • A third potential victim was contacted on the same date by the same person posing as a lieutenant withFulton County Sheriff’s Department. He told her to go to the courthouse to make the payment with the Kroger cards but she said she could not. She questioned him about this and he told her she would be arrested. She called her husband who confirmed it was a scam. She did not give him any information.

Arrests

  • 6350 PDR (Costco), 30328, 8/12: Store security staff detained a man who stole four bottles of Nature Made CoQ10, 200 mg vitamins valued at $140. He was charged and released on a copy to appear in court on Sept. 28.
  • 6937 Roswell Road, 30328, 8/12: Working with Gwinnett police, drug officers executed a search warrant. They found just over 15 ounces of methamphetamine at the residence and a small amount of cocaine. One man was arrested and turned over to Gwinnett County PD.
  • 6690 Roswell Road, 30328, 8/13: Oddly enough, this call had nothing to do with a locker theft. Cops were called to LA Fitness regarding a drunk guy in the locker room. The complainant said just before 8 p.m. he found a club member in the locker room. The man appeared intoxicated. The man grabbed the complainant and said, “Let’s dance.” He suggested he leave but the man refused. Cops did the same as the man was now causing a problem with other members by refusing to leave. He was later arrested.
  • 1100 Hammond Dr., 30328, 8/13 (Rite Aid): Loss prevention staff observed a man take a carton of eight mini bottles of Sutter Home Chardonnay Wine and concealed them in a bag. He then exited the store where he was stopped. The responding officers asked why he took the wine and his response was “I read an opportunity” which is the dumbest thing I’ve heard all day. He was charged with Shoplifting, given a criminal-trespass warning to not return there and issued a citation pending his opportunity to appear in court.
