Editor’s note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department’s weekly Wrap Up compiled by Capt. Steve Rose, which contains some — not all — of the incidents that occurred Sept. 5-9:

Burglary

  • 500 block of Granite Ridge Place, 30350, 9/5: The resident said just after 2 p.m. someone knocked on her door. She wasn’t expecting anyone and decided not to answer. She said that she did look out the peep hole to see a black male, 30-40 years old, wearing a white shirt standing at her door. Shortly after, someone knocked and said “Sandy Springs Police, is anyone home?” She was started and said “yes” and then got dressed and answered the door. She did not find anyone, but found her back door had been pried open and it appeared that someone opened a kitchen cabinet. A butter knife, possibly used to pry the door, was recovered outside and taken as evidence.
  • Duncourtney Drive, 30328, 9/7: The resident was gone overnight and upon returning home, found that someone had taken an Apple iWatch and a Faberge Egg from a cabinet. She suspects her soon-to-be ex-husband.
  • 1000 block of Chevron Drive, 30350, 9/8: Following a dinner party, the hosts were cleaning up. One host, the son, heard the alarm activate in the back door area and heard ”banging around” noises from the basement. Upon checking, a laptop was missing as were several bottles of wine and liquor from the fridge and countertop area. A wallet and a credit card from a purse were missing. The burglar pulled wires from the Bellsouth access box on the wall in an attempt to silence the alarm capability.
  • 200 block of Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 9/8 (4:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.): Someone forced a kitchen door to enter the home. A Viking six-burner gas range/cooktop was taken.
  • 500 block of North River Pkwy, 30350, 9/8: Someone burglarized a shop sometime between 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. the following morning. Missing is a Goodman 2.0 R22 Seer AC Unit.

  • 1800 block of Monticello Drive, 30350, 9/5: The resident said someone stole a pair of Polk Audio Speakers from his back patio area.
  • 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, 9/5: A 17-year old male reported that he was at the basketball court at LA Fitness and left his phone in his backpack at the corner of the court. He was playing with others, some of whom he knew and some he did not. One person in the group sat out. That person left and shortly after, the victim discovered his phone gone.
  • 5555 Roswell Road, 30342, 9/6: A 21-year-old man said that his roommate, who he has known for two whole days, took $500 cash from him and and left for Russia.
  • A woman reported her son recently moved back in due to what was described in the report “...going through hard times and has befallen unfortunate circumstances as it pertains to his current life situation,” meaning he was screwed up. As a result of her motherly love and kindness, her TV is now missing.
  • 5700 block of PDR 30342 9/8A 35-year old man said that around 3 p.m. he was working out in the gym. Another man, whom he knew, was also working out. The victim left for ten minutes, but left his wallet and cash behind. On return, $100 cash was gone. He asked the man about it and the man said he would give the money back the following day at lunch. He never showed. The officer talked to the suspect who said he did not take the money. He said the victim accused him of taking some weed from him which the victim said was ridiculous. Capt. Steve Rose says: Why call the cops if your weed is stolen? Well it has happened. Who knows?
  • 300 block of Natchez Trace, 30350, 9/8: A FedEx package was stolen from the doorstep of the victim’s condo. It contained flatware.
  • Highgrove Point, 30342, 9/9: A resident reported that she suspected her hired staff of stealing from her. She said she noticed that jewelry has been missing including bracelets, chains, diamond ring and other items.

Thefts From Vehicles:

  • 8000 blk Monticello Dr., 30350, 9/5: $10 cash, mobile power pack.
  • 1100 Hammond Dr., 30328. 9/5: Male attempted to cash forged check for $583.22.
  • 5500 blk Roswell Road, 30342, 9/6: Samsonite backpack and personal documents
  • 5600 Roswell Road, 30342, 9/6: HP Laptop, iPad, $40 cash.
  • 7000 blk Chestwick Ct., 30350, 9/7: Debit cards, DL, Misc papers, money clip
  • 6300 Powers Ferry Rd., 30339, 9/7: Tote bag, notebook and keys
  • 8 Concourse Pkwy, 30328, 9/8: Black bag (He fled before police arrived).

Assault

  • A 24-year-old woman on Summit Springs Drive said she was watching a movie on her PS4 system when her boyfriend came in and unplugged the PS4 and began to leave with it. She tried to stop him and in doing so, he grabbed her by the head and hair and threw her to the ground. The boyfriend also broke a window.
  • A 49-year-old man said he was struck in the lip by a Solo Cup thrown by his ex-wife’s sister following a verbal argument over his Jeep not being covered in a rain storm and while he was away. He had a wet shirt and a small cut on his lip.

Other Things

  • High Point Road, 30342, 9/6: A man said he was jogging around 10 p.m. when he was hit in the head by a water balloon thrown by juveniles passing by in a white Chevy Suburban.

Fraud

  • 7000 blk Roswell Road, 30350, 9/7: Someone tried to cash a check at Publix that was stolen from him in August.
  • An 86-year-old woman said someone hacked her computer, placed a virus on it, and then represented themselves as a company (First Choice Customer Care) who could fix the problem for $150. She paid via card and when she realized it was a scam, she tried unsuccessfully to cancel the transaction.

Arrests

  • 1000 block of Brentwood Way, 30350, 9/5: Two drunk persons, male and female, got into an argument over a McDonald’s Chicken Sandwich. The argument took place around 1:19 a.m. and as suspected, alcohol was involved. Capt. Rose says: I’ve had the McDonald’s Chicken Sandwich. It’s nothing to fight over.
  • As seen on TV, two juveniles are in custody after a series of car break-in’s that came to a head over at the 350 Carpenter Drive area just after 1 a.m. A complainant called in that a suspicious car was leaving the area. An officer located a silver Jeep Liberty (as described) in a cul-de-sac nearby. The Jeep Liberty rammed the police car and fled, later to wreck at Mt. Vernon and Roswell Road. The car was found to be stolen in Smyrna. The other car and occupants were able to flee the scene. No injuries were reported. The arrests will clear six local thefts and several more in Cobb County.
  • 800 block of Hammond Drive, 30328, 9/5: Just after 5 a.m., one man was arrested after a woman called to say he was on the hood of her car and would not get off. She apparently called earlier after she saw him near her car and suspected he was vandalizing it. Capt. Rose says: Neither alcohol nor the McDonald’s Chicken Sandwich were involved.
