Mother, Ex-Boyfriend Charged After Boy, 4, Accidentally Shoots Himself
Police say the four-year-old boy unintentionally shot himself in the arm Friday afternoon on Brentwood Way in Sandy Springs.

Detectives with the Sandy Springs Police Department have charged the mother and her ex-boyfriend after the woman’s four-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the arm Friday afternoon.
Shaniece Harris, 26, has been charged with obstruction of an law enforcement officer and reckless conduct, said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Ron Momon. Police have also charged her ex-boyfriend, Marcus Phillips, 30, with obstruction and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
First responders were called to 1003 Brentwood Way around 1:20 p.m. Nov. 28 where Harris’ four-year-old son ”grabbed a .45 caliber handgun off a dresser in the bedroom and accidentally shot himself in the arm,” Momon noted.

The firearm belonged to Phillips, Momon added. The boy received non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. He remains in stable condition.
