Sandy Springs Circle, Mt. Vernon Intersection Reopens To Traffic

The project, which was expected to take five months, was compressed into a two-month time frame.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Sandy Springs motorists, the project forcing you to overhaul your commuting patterns has come to an end.

Construction work at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Highway and Sandy Springs Circle has wrapped up a week ahead of schedule, with lanes reopening Monday.

Mayor Rusty Paul, who noted the original timeline for the project was five months, said crews -- recognizing the impact the closure would have on the community -- were able to compress that timeline into two months.

"I want to thank the construction crews and utility companies for their efforts, and thank our community for bearing with us as we improved safety at that intersection,” he said.

The project lowered the road several feet, enhancing visibility at the intersection. Above ground utilities were also buried as part of the effort. Drivers should note crews will continue working in the area to complete installation of sidewalk, the traffic signal mast arm and retaining walls. Final lane configuration and turning lanes will be completed as roadway work surrounding City Springs nears completion.

While the intersection reopens today, Mt. Vernon Highway from Sandy Springs Circle to Roswell Road will remain closed as that section of the roadway is lowered and widened, utility work takes place and sidewalks are installed.

Development of the Bluestone Extension will also occur alongside the Mt. Vernon roadwork. Construction is anticipated to be completed this winter.

Following the work along Mt. Vernon, Sandy Springs will begin the next phase of improvements along Sandy Springs Circle, with lane closures anticipated.

Scheduled closures for that phase will  be released as they are finalized, with all planned closures posted on the city’s Road Work Advisory website.
