Sandy Springs To Consider Buying Sherwin-Williams Property For City Center

If the council approves the purchase and sale agreement, the city will dismiss condemnation proceedings during closing on the property.

It appears the city of Sandy Springs could finally come to an agreement with Sherwin-Williams regarding land along Johnson Ferry Road the city wants to acquire for its City Center project.

The City Council on Tuesday will consider a purchase and sale agreement with the company during its meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at Sandy Springs City Hall.

The property is located at 245 Johnson Ferry Road. After initial negotiations to acquire the land were not successful, the city’s legal team pursued the eminent domain option. Discussions and negotiations continued with owners, who have now agreed to sell the parcel to the city for a mutually agreed-upon price of $2 million.

That figure includes acquisition of the property, settle any possible claims of lost business and possible relocation costs, the city’s agenda packet states. If the agreement is approved by Sandy Springs leaders, the city will dismiss the condemnation action at closing.

The proposed agreement comes on the heels of the council earlier this month approved moving forward with eminent domain proceedings on five parcels related to its project.
