Sandy Springs Council Will Consider Intersection Improvements

The city plans to make improvements to Powers Ferry Road at Northside Drive and Powers Ferry Road at New Northside Drive.

The Sandy Springs City Council on Tuesday will consider approving contracts to make improvements to two of its major intersections.

The council will consider awarding a bid to R.J. Haynie & Associates to perform improvements at Powers Ferry Road at Northside Drive and Powers Ferry Road at New Northside Drive for $465,980.

The improvements include: sidewalks and crosswalks, roadway paving and widening, traffic signal installation, among other specifications.

Council members will also consider amending ordinances with regards to internally illuminating signs, off-street parking and loading, clarifying the standards of multi-family residential units in commercial districts and adding multi-family residential unit development standards.

It will also consider amending an ordinance to address testing and maintenance of privately owned fire hydrants in the city.

Sandy Springs leaders will also consider four rezoning requests:

  • A request from Halpern Enterprises, Inc., to rezone property at 5188 & 5208 Roswell Road from O&I (office-institutional) to R-3 (single family residential) and mixed use for a mixed-office/residential development.
  • A request from Rockhaven Homes to rezone property at 5950 Mitchell Road from R-1 (Single Family Dwelling District) to R-4 (Single Family Dwelling District) to build a 16-lot subdivision.
  • A request from Zahedi, Inc. to rezone property at 5801 Roswell Road from C-1 (Community Business District) conditional to C-1 (Community Business District) to allow an addition to the existing commercial building.
  • A request from Southtech Homes LLC to rezone property at 6079 Boylston Road from R-4 (Single Family Dwelling District) to A (Medium Density Apartment District) to develop a 22-lot townhome development.

After its meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at Sandy Springs City Hall, the council will hold its work session to review its pedestrian infrastructure, policies, planning, programs and implementation tools. Sandy Springs City Hall sits at 7840 Roswell Road Building 500.
