Atlanta, GA -- A Sandy Springs City Council member has been appointed to the board of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust.

Andy Bauman, who represents District 6, was among the five members sworn into office last week by Georgia House Speaker David Ralston.
Along with Bauman, the four members are Jody Franco (reappointment), Rabbi Philip Kranz, Michael Morris and Robert Wittenstein.

The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust is a secular, non-partisan state agency administratively attached to the Secretary of State’s office.
The Commission consists of 15 members appointed equally by the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the house. To see the full text of House Bill 1664 creating the Holocaust Commission, click here.
Councilman Bauman is a self-employed attorney and real estate investor. He previously served as the first alumni member of the Emory Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors, took part in the American Jewish Committee leadership training program and volunteered for several years as a baseball coach for the Northside Youth Organization at Chastain Park.
In 2010, he co-founded the Sandy Springs Farmers Market, which is now managed by Heritage Sandy Springs. He also currently serves on the steering committee of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.
Bauman completed both his undergraduate studies and law degree at Emory University. He and wife, Dr. Debbie Bauman, have two children, live in the Lake Forest Summit neighborhood and are actively involved at Sandy Springs-based Temple Sinai.
Kranz served as senior rabbi at Temple Sinai from 1980 to 2006 when he was named rabbi emeritus.
He remains active at Sinai, reaching, writing and overseeing collection building in Temple Sinai’s Rabbi Philip N. Kranz Learning Center. Married to Nancy Weston Kranz since 1971, Nancy and Rabbi Kranz are the parents of two married daughters, Rebecca Friedman and Abigail Ornstein.
