Sandy Springs Firefighter Killed In Motorcycle Crash

BREAKING: Jacob Hammond, 21, died Thursday in a single-vehicle collision in northern Forsyth County.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA -- A firefighter with Sandy Springs Fire-Rescue Department died early Thursday morning in a motorcycle accident in northern Forsyth County, Patch has learned. Deputies with the Forsyth sheriff's office were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash around 1:14 a.m. Sept. 21 on Bannister Road near Namon Wallace Road.

Deputy First Class Andy Ives, traffic specialist investigator with the sheriff's office, said a preliminary investigation reveals a black 2016 Harley Davidson XL1200V (Sportster) was traveling on Bannister Road and "while negotiating a curve in the roadway, the motorcycle left the roadway and the driver was ejected."

Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said Hammond was employed as a firefighter in Sandy Springs and his agency has been in touch with Fire Chief Keith Sanders.

"The men and women of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office extend their condolences and prayers to the Sandy Springs Fire Department and the Hammond family," he added.
