Sandy Springs Honors Arbor Day With Tree Planting Ceremony
The ceremony will take place Feb. 20 on Johnson Ferry Road at Laurian Wood Drive.

In celebration of Arbor Day, the city of Sandy Springs will host a tree planting celebration next week.
The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20 on Johnson Ferry Road at Laurian Wood Drive — the entrance to the Laurian Wood subdivision.

The event culminates collaboration between neighboring communities, Sandy Springs Conservancy and the UPS Foundation, bringing 18 Bosque Elm trees and more than 100 Trident Maples to be planted along Johnson Ferry Road.
The idea of planting trees at this location was sparked by the neighbors’ desire to replace trees lost in the widening of Johnson Ferry Road. Sandy Springs Conservancy, UPS and the UPS Foundation worked with the neighbors to make the desire of added greenery a reality.

Established more than 100 years ago, Arbor Day celebrates and promotes the planting and care of trees. The National Arbor Day is celebrated in April while the state of Georgia celebration of trees held in February to align with the region’s planting season.
Sandy Springs recently received its Tree City USA status for a sixth consecutive year through the Arbor Day Foundation honoring the city’s commitment to community forestry. As part of its environmental efforts, The UPS Foundation and UPS employees have planted more than three million trees across 47 countries since 2012.
