Sandy Springs Imposes Moratorium on Convenience Stores

The 120-day moratorium on new applications will allow city staff to make sure its regulations are in line with its comprehensive plan.

The Sandy Springs City Council on Tuesday voted to impose a 120-day moratorium on new applications to open convenience stores in the city.

The council unanimously approved the moratorium, which was requested by city staff to “ensure that our regulations are in sync with the comprehensive plan in terms of what we would like to see in the city of Sandy Springs,” Community Development Director Angela Parker said before the council took action.

The proposal to impose a moratorium was introduced after the “recent increase in inquires from the development community regarding development of convenience stores inconsistent with planning initiatives of the city,” according to the resolution approved by the council.

Any applications that were submitted before the council approved the moratorium will still be considered for approval by the city, Parker stated.
