Sandy Springs Imposes New Fee For Noise Variance

The change impact contractors who want to work outside the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. during the week and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m on Saturday.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Contractors who seek special permission to work outside designated construction hours in Sandy Springs will now have to fork over $250 outside of the ordinance approved hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. during the week as part of the application process.

The City Council approved the new fee at its Feb. 7 meeting.

The change in the noise ordinance impacts contractors who'd like to work outside of the ordinance approved hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. during the week and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Sandy Springs did require e a $250 fee for processing a general variance application, but that rule did not include a fee for requests to work outside construction hours.

The ordinance allows for up to two variances within two separate 24-hour windows. The new fee will cover associated administrative costs.

Any requests beyond the first two must be made before the Board of Appeals, which includes a public hearing and will incur a $500 fee per request.

The new fee went into effect following the Council's approval.
