Sandy Springs Man Charged in Wreck That Injured 4

David Wayne Ballard, 46, has been charged with reckless driving in the accident that injured four people in Smyrna.

A Sandy Springs man has been charged with causing a five-vehicle accident that left four people injured Monday morning.

The Smyrna Police Department say David Wayne Ballard, 46, was behind the wheel of the gray Mazda RX8 when the vehicle veered off Windy Hill Road near Dixie Avenue, traveled up the angled support of the CSX railroad overpass and landed on top of three other vehicles at the intersection of Windy Hill and Atlanta roads.

The accident, which occurred around at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, injured four people, who were all transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment. One of the four victims is listed in critical condition, police said.

Ballard was arrested Monday evening and charged with one count of misdemeanor reckless driving, according to Smyrna police and jail records.

Ballard posted a $1,000 bond early Tuesday and was released from jail. The accident remains under investigation.
