SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Community involvement has been a key component in the development of City Springs, from strategic planning to programming desires for the performing arts center. During the May 7 meeting of the City Council, the City received a gift of art, reflecting the close connection community members have with City Springs.

City Councilman John Paulson, along with Sandy Springs artist Sue Carlson, presented the City with a mosaic of the City Springs logo. The artwork was three years in the making, with each of the more than 7,000 individual glass tiles hand cut and hand placed.

Paulson and Carlson developed the concept as the City approached its tenth anniversary. The canvas was ready in time for the City’s tenth anniversary party, with participants able to place glass pieces. Over the course of the next two years, the mosaic was present at community events to enable residents, visitors and city staff the opportunity to connect with City Springs through art.

“This project touched the hearts of a lot of people. It was heartwarming to see the excitement as people placed their tiles into the piece,” Paulson said.

The mosaic is approximately 36 by 42 inches, weighing about 50 pounds. It will be on display at City Hall in the main lobby.
