Sandy Springs Names Deputy Police Chief

Sandy Springs, GA -- The city of Sandy Springs announced today the promotion of Captain Keith Zgonc to the role of deputy chief of police.

As deputy chief, Zgonc will manage the operations and administrative functions of the department, making him second in command to Police Chief Ken DeSimone.
“This is a great opportunity to take my career to the next level in a community that I have grown to love, and I look forward to the challenge,” said Zgonc.

Zgonc has served with the Sandy Springs Police since the department’s inception in 2006. As one of the founding members of the agency, he was part of the team that established their core values of community policing which included enforcing the new city’s ordinances and putting more patrol officers on the streets creating a more visible and accessible police force.
“Keith’s leadership abilities over the past 10 years have contributed greatly to the department’s success,” DeSimone said. “He is well-suited to continue his leadership role in this higher capacity.”
Zgonc’s 25-year career in law enforcement began in 1991 with the Smyrna Police Department. His assignments have included uniform patrol, community policing, media relations, investigation, training and communications.
Zgonc is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the FBI National Academy. He currently sits on the Academy’s Georgia Chapter Executive Board.
