Sandy Springs Offers $73,600 To Relocate Car Shop

Magic Mike's Automotive, formerly known as Eddie's Automotive, will move to the former Midas shop at 6506B Roswell Road.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A long-running standoff with a local car repair shop has come to an end in Sandy Springs, allowing the city to move forward with intersection improvement plans along a key thoroughfare.

The City Council on Tuesday approved a settlement relocation for Magic Mike's Automotive, which is at 260 Mt. Vernon Highway.

The settlement for the business formerly known as Eddie's Automotive was approved in the amount of $73,600.

The shop will move into the former Midas shop at 6506B Roswell Road, city spokesperson Sharon Kraun said.

An employee who answered the phone at Magic Mike's declined to comment on the agreement approved unanimously by the City Council. Kraun said the agreement calls for the company to vacate the premises by Jan. 1, 2017.

The current home of Magic Mike's is where Sandy Springs wants to install a triangle park that would be across from the City Springs. It's also near the intersections where the city seeks to install dual roundabouts.

However, those plans hit a snag when the state's Historic Preservation Division ruled the car shop site to be "historic."

The first roundabout is planned for the Johnson Ferry Road, Mt. Vernon Highway and Boylston Drive intersection while the second traffic circle is slated for the intersection at Johnson Ferry Road, Mt. Vernon Highway and Mount Vernon Towers driveway.
