Police Arrest Driver Who Hit Sandy Springs Officer With Car
A 25-year-old from Atlanta has been arrested after she hit a Sandy Springs police officer Monday morning on Powers Ferry Road and fled.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A woman has been arrested in conection with a hit-and-run Monday morning involved a Sandy Springs Police officer.
Madison Kelley Leftwich, 25, of Atlanta, was arrested June 3 for hit-and-run, failure to obey an officer directing traffic, serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving and lane violation.
At 8 a.m. on Monday, Sandy Springs Police said that Powers Ferry Road between the Chattahoochee River and Northside Drive was temporarily shut down for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

The person hit was an officer who was directing traffic near the One River Place condo complex.
The officer was transported to Grady Hospital where he was treated and released. He received several stitches and is home recovering at this time, the department said.

Leftwich fled the scene east on Powers Ferry Road and turned north on New Northside Drive. Police had a description of the car and driver, and found the vehicle at a nearby apartment complex.
Powers Ferry Road between the Chatahoochee River and Northside Drive is temporarily shut down for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. Use Interstate North Parkway as an alternate.
