Sandy Springs To Open Bid Process For Field Services Contracts

Affected services include street cleaning, traffic signal maintenance, tree removal and emergency services related to public works.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The city of Sandy Springs has announced plans to open the bid process for field services contracts this winter.

Those contracted services include streets, park and right-of-way maintenance, street cleaning, traffic signal maintenance, tree removal and emergency services related to public works.

“Utilizing the competitive process to ensure the best price and service is an integral part of the success of the public-private model the city employs," said City Manager John McDonough. "The contracting companies have done an excellent job for the city. However, the time is appropriate to place these contracts out for competitive bid."

In June, the City Council gave its general city service contractors three-year extensions to ensure continuity of operations while the city completes a rewrite of its comprehensive land use plan and zoning code, along with construction of the City Springs development.

Those contracts include the areas of public works, community development, finance, information technology, recreation and parks and communications.

“The procurement process is a time and labor-intensive procedure," McDonough added. "From a risk management standpoint and ensuring a maintained standard of service, we felt it a best-practice to stagger the contract bid process"

A pre-proposal meeting is expected to be held in December, with the request for proposals released a few weeks following that meeting. The new field services contracts will be included as part of the fiscal year 2018 budget.
