Sandy Springs Police Organizes Drug Take-Back Day
The police department will participate in the nationwide Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The Sandy Springs Police Department will once again participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.
The agency will be accepting unused or unwanted prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at its headquarters, located at 7840 Roswell Road Building 301 in Sandy Springs.
This will be the fourth year Sandy Springs police has participated in the program. Last year, the agency took in over 100 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs, according to its press release.

In the four previous Take-Back events, DEA in conjunction with state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners have collected more than two million pounds of prescription medications that were removed from circulation.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

Shortly after DEA’s first Take-Back Day event four years ago, Congress passed, and President Barack Obama signed, the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010, which amended the Controlled Substances Act, allowing the federal agency to develop permanent, ongoing and responsible methods for disposal.
