Sandy Springs Schedules Millage Rate Hearings

Due to an estimated increase in property values, the city's 4.731 millage rate is .14 mills higher than the rollback rate of 4.591.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The city of Sandy Springs will soon kick off its public hearing process on the proposed millage rate for fiscal year 2017.

The first public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, which is located at 7840 Roswell Road.

The city’s millage rate of 4.731 is set in its charter and has not changed since incorporation. However, due to the estimated increase in property values, the millage rate for 2017 reflects as 0.14 mills higher than the rollback millage rate of 4.591 calculated by the Fulton County Tax Assessors Office.

Each year, the board of tax assessors is required to review the assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable property in the county.

The tentative increase in tax is a result of a notice from Fulton County of an increase in the valuation of real property tax assessments and new development, not the millage rate. Homeowners may see an increase or decrease in their residential property taxes, depending on whether individual property was assessed higher or lower by the county.

Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow citizens an opportunity to express their opinions on the rate.

Additional public hearings on this increase will take place at 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 19 in the Council Chambers, which are in Building 500.
