Sandy Springs Selects Architect To Replace Fire Station No. 2

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — During its Sept. 17 meeting, the Sandy Springs City Council approved the selection of Hussey Gay Bell & DeYoung as architect to design a new fire station for the City. The firm will design a new facility to replace Fire Station No. 2 located at the corner of Johnson Ferry Road and Sandy Springs Circle in the City of Sandy Springs.

Hussey Gay Bell & DeYoung has a history lasting six decades with projects including Fire Station No. 8 in Forsyth County; the Rousakis Plaza on River Street in Savannah, Ga.; the Spearman C. Godsey Science Center in Macon, Ga., and the Palmetto Dunes Resort on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Fire Station No. 2 first opened 50 years ago in 1969 and needs to be upgraded to meet current public safety needs. The Sandy Springs City Council approved replacing the facility as part of its Fiscal Year 2020 budget.

The daily minimum staffing includes a three person engine company, a three person tower truck company, a two person paramedic rescue company and the on duty Battalion Chief.

Demolition of the building at Johnson Ferry and Sandy Springs Circle is expected to take place in November. The City is in the process of determining a location for a temporary fire station while the new facility is constructed.
