The goal of the Purple Heart program, which began in 1932, is public awareness. As part of that effort, the city will locate special signage within the city as well as celebrate Purple Heart Day each Aug. 7.

“Becoming a designated Purple Heart Medal City allows us to show respect for our veterans and acknowledge the sacrifices these individuals have made on our behalf,” said Sandy Springs City Councilman John Paulson, who is spearheading the effort and is a U. S. Marine Veteran.
