Sandy Springs Wants To Name Bridge After Senator Johnny Isakson
A dedication ceremony is set for Dec. 22 at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area's Johnson Ferry North entrance.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Leaders in Sandy Springs and Cobb County on Thursday will gather at a bridge over the Chattahoochee River to honor U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson.
The dedication ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22 at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area's Johnson Ferry North Entrance at Columns Drive.
The Sandy Springs City Council is set to approve a resolution naming the Johnson Ferry Road bridge over the river to the Johnny Isakson Bridge.

According to the city's resolution, Isakson has served in elected office for nearly 40 years, He was first elected to public office in 1974, and served for 17 years in both the House and Senate of the Georgia General Assembly.
He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003 and has served as a United States Senator since 2004.

Sandy Springs notes the senator "was the driving force behind the improvements" of the Johnson Ferry/Abernathy road corridor, which serves as an east-west connector between Cobb and the city.
"Today, the corridor accommodates more than 41,000 commuters daily, and the city of Sandy Springs has established an award-winning linear park along Abernathy Road," the resolution states, adding Isakson regularly uses the bridge as part of his commute from his home to his real estate office at Northside Tower on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.
The Johnson Ferry North Entrance is located directly across from Columns Drive at the Chattahoochee River just inside Cobb County.
