The KNFB Service Agreement, valued at $95,000, helps fund services provided at the Sandy Springs Recycling Center, including Household Hazardous Waste events, Christmas Tree Disposal, and stream cleaning efforts.

In addition, the City Council adopted during its November 17, 2020 meeting, a resolution for participation with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s Local Government Scrap Tire Abatement (STAR) Reimbursement Program. STAR reimburses municipalities for the transportation and processing of used tires collected during set events. The City is reimbursed up to four dollars per tire, covering all costs associated with the collection event.

During its meeting, the City Council approved an agreement with Keep North Georgia Beautiful to administer the STAR program. Plans are underway for a late January 2021 event with KNFB handling operations and upfront costs. Invoices are submitted to the GA EPD by the City and funds reimbursed to KNFB. Fees collected on the sale of new tires are held in the Georgia Solid Waste Trust Fund, supporting the STAR program.
