The 18,000-square-foot facility, with its grand entrance and spacious ballroom, is ideal for any affair and can serve up to 500 guests. The venue includes a well-equip kitchen, complete buffet set up, tasteful furniture, linens, china service, and flatware.

“We’re committed to designing events that make extraordinary memories. I want these occasions to become an important part of people’s lives,” owner Gia Alzar said. “Our focus is on impeccable planning and service. We started this business when a couple got engaged at one of our restaurants and then naturally catered their wedding.”

Gia’s experience is extensive. Since 1995, Gia’s family owned seven restaurants and three event halls in Gwinnett County. Renowned for their Persian food, they found catering and orchestrating events a natural progression – in addition to being lucrative and satisfying. (Her mother’s current Persian restaurant, Zafran Kitchen, is located in Historic Roswell.)

“We (my three siblings and I) all learned the business from scratch from our parents,” added Gia.

Gia became their head of event planning and also staged houses for real estate ventures. A graduate from The Art Institute of Atlanta, majoring in Residential Design, Gia loves to plan all Sherwood events – even a wake (which was a celebration, rather than a sad affair).

In addition to fabulous weddings, a high school homecoming, city of Sandy Springs’ 10th birthday party, graduation and holiday party for Every Woman Works (a non-profit organization), American Gem Show, Founders Day Ball and bridal show are already scheduled.

“It’s a huge undertaking. I have a silent partner, but Sherwood is my ‘baby’ and I’m immersed in all our activities,” remarked Gia. “We offer a big hotel experience without the big price.” Her goal is to have Sherwood be “the place to go to” for all types of events. Gia‘s future plans include expanding to other venues in Atlanta.
