Shot Fired During Burglary In Sandy Springs

The homeowner said he heard someone open his garage door and saw two men standing outside the garage.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A resident was fortunate to escape injury when a bullet was fired into his home during a burglary attempt reported Tuesday in Sandy Springs.

An officer was dispatched around 5:19 a.m. April 25 to a burglary in progress call in the 200 block of Colewood Way, which is located off River Valley Drive.

The officer met with the homeowner, who said someone broke into his vehicle and garage. According to an incident report released by the police department, the man said he heard his garage door open and came downstairs to see what was the cause of the commotion.

As he peered through the glass from inside the house to the garage, the homeowner said he saw two men standing outside the garage and that its door was open.

The male said he was unable to get a description of the subjects since it was dark. However, he banged on the window, heard what sounded like glass breaking and saw the pair flee on foot down the driveway. The interior light of the homeowner's car, a 2012 Mercedes Benz C250 parked in the driveway, was on and its driver side door was cracked open, the report states.

The officer checked the car, and discovered items from the glove box were spread across the front seat and the garage door opener was missing from the vehicle. It also appears the suspects rummaged through another vehicle parked in the garage, a 2010 Mercedes Benz G1450.

While checking the area, officers noticed a bullet hole in the wall between the garage and the interior of the home.

"There was also a bullet hole in the bathroom door across from that wall, as well as one in the base board of the bathroom," the report notes.

A next door neighbor told police he heard a gunshot and heard someone walking through the wood behind the home and a vehicle drive away from the area. Another caller who lives directly behind the targeted home also called police to report gun shots.

Taken from both vehicles were $100 in cash, a Louis Vuitton purse and two pairs of sunglasses.

Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham said no suspects have been identified in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
