Shot Fired at Hotel, Shoplifting Suspect Found In Gated Dumpster

The following information was taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department's Weekly Wrap Up.

Editor's note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department's Weekly Wrap Up compiled by Capt. Steve Rose, which contains some of the incidents that occurred Nov. 4-7:

Arrests

  • 7525 Roswell Road, 30350, 11/4: Following a shoplifting complaint at Publix, the employee followed the suspect while police responded. Officers spotted a man matching the description, or rather spotted a pair of tennis shoes protruding from a gated dumpster behind the nearby Walgreens. The shoes were ordered out of the gated area. They complied, followed by the guy wearing them, who happened to be the same suspect. He was arrested.
  • A woman said she caught her significant other with another woman and during the confrontation, she took some swings at him causing him a few scrapes. • 7200 block PDR, 30328, 11/6: An officer was looking for a suspect on a warrant. He noticed a woman who matched the description. He spoke to the woman who said she was walking to a friend’s home on Westfair Court. She had no ID on her but said she knew her driver's license number and gave it to the officer. He checked and found a warrant active on her for a probation violation from Sandy Springs. He took her into custody and during that time, found a clear baggie with a rock in it, field-tested positive for methamphetamine. She said she “had a little crystal meth” in it, along with a couple of pipes and some (small amount) marijuana. She was arrested.
  • A man was arrested at PDR and Mt. Vernon after a traffic stop. He was wanted in Dunwoody for failure to appear on traffic charges.
  • On GA-400 at the MARTA ramp, an accident investigation resulted in the arrest of one man who had two warrants, one in Fulton for failure to appear and one in Cobb for trespassing. He was arrested.

Other Things

  • 8610 Roswell Road, 30350, 11/4: Around 11 p.m., officers responded to a fight call. They found a man who had lacerations to his face and blood on his shirt and pants. The man told the officers that he had exited a restaurant after a few glasses of wine. He observed four to five people, including a woman in a wedding dress. According to the victim, he began talking with the group but during the conversation, one of the men became aggressive. His account of the incident is not all that clear, only that he ended up on the pavement, having been struck in the face. Around the same time, a wedding and reception took place in the same complex. That accounts for the dress. We call that a clue.
  • 6345 Powers Ferry Road, 30339, 11/5 (Wyndham Hotel): A 25-year-old woman said she met a man at the Blue Flame Adult Club on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in Atlanta. She later met the man at the Wyndham at 6 a.m. They apparently got along well. He left around noon and took $1,000 cash, sneakers, and Gucci flip-flops with him. The caller said he was in bed watching TV when all of a sudden he heard a shot and felt glass “all over my face.” No one was injured during the incident. A 9 mm shell casing was located outside in the lot. The bullet passed through and into the wall, where it lodged.
  • 1000 block of Harbor Pointe, 30350, 11/6: A 38-year-old man reported he was being harassed by text messages from a woman whom he had a thing with after he split from his wife. He stayed with the “other” woman for 2 to 3 days and he got back with the wife (Capt. Rose's disclaimer: Not that going back to the wife is bad, but someone has to lose in that scenario). Anyway, the now ex-girlfriend found out and the text messages came in nonstop. She continued with screenshots of their one-time private conversations and then informed him he owed her $350. Later, a guy called, informing the complainant that he was a debt collector who “runs people down for money.” He told the complainant that he was being paid $500 to collect the $350 debt, meaning the ex-girlfriend did not major in finance. She finally said she was sending folks from North Carolina to “get him.” Capt. Rose says: This guy should have known he was doomed from the beginning. Move in for 2 to 3 days then back to the wife? Make up your mind, sir.
  • On Nov. 7, a 74-year old man reported that he received a call from a man identifying himself as the district attorney, informing him that his grandson was in an accident and needed $2,000 for bond money. The victim wired $2,000 from a nearby Walmart to another Walmart before realizing he had been duped.
