This year’s award honors Stan Stockdale, who is a longtime member of Springmont’s Board of Trustees.
“Stan has truly made an indelible impression on Springmont,” said Jerri King, Springmont head of school. “You actually can look around the campus and see where he has made his mark. It is because of him that the lives of our students and faculty are better and for that we honor him as Volunteer of the Year.”

Springmont awards the designation in an effort to engage volunteers and advocates in celebrating the spirit and practice of volunteerism and honoring the accomplishments of those who encourage and nurture the school’s students.
Retired from ADP, Stockdale’s service to Springmont is long and varied; he is the parent of two sons, Jonathan and Spencer, who attended Springmont.
While on the Board of Trustees, Stockdale has chaired the Finance, Facilities and Head Support committees, and has been instrumental in many campus improvements. These projects include the complete solar awning project and building a wall for the pavilion that features elements of Springmont’s brand identity.
Stockdale is a veteran who trained German Shepherds during the Vietnam War. He loves woodworking and is a member of the Carolina Mountain Wood Turners. He’s also an avid basketball player at St. John United Methodist Church.
