St. Joseph's and Emory Healthcare Complete Merger
Emory Healthcare will own 51 percent of the Sandy Springs heart hospital.

St. Joseph’s Health System and Emory Healthcare have completed their merger. The partnership was announced 10 months ago and combines the Sandy Springs heart hospital with Emory Johns Creek Hospital.
The hospitals will operate under Emory Healthcare, and be part of Woodruff Health Sciences Center and Emory University. According to the announcement by Emory Healthcare, it will own 51 percent of St. Joe’s.

A statement on the Emory Healthcare website said, Saint Joseph’s will retain involvement in governance of the [joint operating company], including super majority voting rights on issues critical to Saint Joseph’s mission, values and Catholic religious and ethical directives. The JOC has received the required regulatory approvals as well as approval from the Vatican.
In a press statement Steve Eaton, Chairman of Saint Joseph’s Health System Board of Trustees said, “The boards and management teams from both Emory Healthcare and Saint Joseph’s Hospital have spent countless hours working through this regulatory process to arrive at this great venture.”
