Stars And Stripes Celebration Comes To Sandy Springs

Sandy Springs and Dunwoody are teaming up this year to promote two day’s worth of celebrations during the July 4th weekend.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, July 4, the Dunwoody Homeowners Association and the Dunwoody Crier Newspaper will host the annual Fourth of July Parade featuring marching bands, floats, clowns, animals and local celebrities.

Last year the parade attracted more than 2,500 participants and 32,000 spectators.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. at Mount Vernon Road and Jett Ferry Road. It will proceed west on Mt. Vernon to Dunwoody Village, with spectator points all along the route.

On Sunday, July 5, residents can head on over to the Concourse Corporate Center lawn for the annual fireworks display hosted by the city of Sandy Springs.

The band, Shiloh, will perform at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to pack a snack, bring a blanket and enjoy an evening under the stars as fireworks illuminate the sky above the iconic King and Queen buildings.

Pets, tents, outdoor cooking and personal-use sparklers will not be permitted.

The Hospitality and Convention and Visitors bureaus of the two cities decided to combine promotional efforts for the holiday weekend this year, noting that residents frequently cross the borders for entertainment and leisure activities.
