State Opens Investigation Into Sandy Springs Special Election
At this time, the city will hold the District 3 City Council election on Tuesday, May 24, a city spokesperson said.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The Georgia Secretary of State's office is investigating the Sandy Springs special election to fill the vacant District 3 seat on the City Council.
That's according to agency spokesperson Candice Broce, who declined to provide additional details surrounding the case since it remains active.
However, a compliant form provided by the office notes the investigation, which was opened Friday, May 20, surrounds precinct notifications and locations.

Specifically, the case is filed under the "Elections-Polling Place Change-No Notice" category, according to the form.
City spokesperson Sharon Kraun said the city was informed of the investigation on Friday.

"At the time, the investigator did not provide a lot of detail related to the allegations and requested information related to our election process," she said. "The city will provide the Secretary of State’s office with that detail. At this time, we are continuing forward with the special election as planned."
When asked how long the investigation could take, Broce stated it would be "unwise to speculate on a time frame because each case is different."
The District 3 seat became vacant with former City Councilman Graham McDonald resigned to run for the House District 52 seat. The five candidates running to succeed McDonald on the Council are Larry Young, Suzi Voyles, Joe Houseman, Brian Eufinger and Chris Burnett
Election Day voting for the nonpartisan special election -- held for District 3 residents only -- will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 in the Round Program Building at Hammond Park at 6005 Glenridge Drive.
