devotion to classic Hollywood films, a fondness for acrylic paint

applied from the tip of a very small brush, and an enthusiasm

for the strong graphics and solid colors of graphic design.

While studying for her Bachelor’s degree in Documentary

Arts at Antioch College in Ohio, she fell in love with the films of the

1940’s; Bette Davis and Alfred Hitchcock becoming her muse.

After graduation she moved to Scotland and took up painting, enamored

with the thick dense medium of acrylic. Upon returning to the

States, she began a career in graphic arts, working for many years as

Art Director for a television production company in Los Angeles. Emily

was drawn to the aesthetics of clean edges, sharp lines and striking

visuals reminiscent of the overreaching shadows of film noir.

The creation of her three dimensional pieces began

while studying painting at the School of The Museum of Fine

Arts in Boston. They consist of a triple coating of acrylic paint,

applied in reverse, directly onto the underside of two separate

pieces of Plexiglas. Each corner is then drilled, screwed together,

and backed by a piece of wood, covered with patterned textile.

Every piece is handmade, one of a kind, and entirely unique.

Emily’s artwork has been shown locally at the Seen Gallery & Donna Van Gogh, as well as

various galleries in Pittsburgh, Boston, Miami and Los Angeles.

Her artwork can be seen at Steve’s Live Music through the end of March 2015.

Come out to see the art. Stay to hear the music!
