Suspect Armed With Rifle, Knife Robs Grocery Store: Cops

The man entered the store, stole $6,000 in cash and $380 from a woman's wallet, Sandy Springs police said.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Sandy Springs police detectives are investigating an armed robbery reported over the weekend at a grocery store catering to the area's Hispanic population. The victims told police a male suspect robbed them of cash and a purse at Supermercado at 178 Northwood Drive between 11:55 p.m. Jan. 6 and midnight Jan. 7.

Armed with a knife and a magazine-fed rifle, the suspect entered the store through the back door, which was left open. Once inside the store, he walked to the front and "snatched $6,000 off the counter," said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham.

"The money was being counted because it was the end of the week," he added.

According to police, the suspect grabbed one of the victim's wallet out of her purse and took $380 before throwing the item on the ground. He then grabbed another victim's purse and fled the scene. The victims said he was last seen running southbound towards the Prado shopping center.

The suspect is about 5'9'' tall with a slim build. The victims said they believe he was Hispanic, and was wearing grey gloves and a multicolored gray striped ski mask that concealed his identity. He was also wearing green pants and a gray and black jacket.
