Suspect Attacks Police K9 Using Brass Knuckles
Sandy Springs police say K-9 Rock was hit several times by an entering auto suspect he was apprehending early Monday morning.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A K9 with the Sandy Springs Police Department is expected to make a full recovery after an entering auto suspect allegedly assaulted the animal using brass knuckles.

The incident started when a resident reported an entering auto taking place at his home in the 5400 block of Chemin De Vie, which sits off Roswell Road to the south of Mt. Paran Road.
Officers responded to the home around 2:45 a.m. April 18. According to an incident report released by Sandy Springs police, the resident said he heard noises outside his bedroom window, so he went to investigate the cause of the ruckus.

When he peered outside, he saw the driver's side door open, the interior light on and a person rummaging inside the vehicle.
The resident ran outside, and began yelling at the man inside his truck. Once outside, he told police he saw another person nearby and both suspects began to run.
Two Sandy Springs K9s, Rock and Django, and their handlers were able to track the suspects after they fled into the woods.
Rock was assaulted while apprehending suspect Johnathan Michael Wimbs, 25, said Sgt. Forrest Bohannon, spokesperson with Sandy Springs police.
Bohannon said Rock was "struck several times in the head and face" by Wimbs, who was wearing brass knuckles during the alleged attack.
Bohannon said Rock was taken to an emergency animal hospital where he was treated and released. While he's back at work, he remains on limited duty while recovers, she added.
Wimbs is charged with five counts of felony entering auto, two counts of felony theft by receiving stolen property, participating in gang activity, destroying or causing serious or debilitating injury to a police dog or horse, felony obstruction of officers, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Another man, Aron Glenn Davis, 24, is also charged with two counts of felony theft by receiving stolen property, five counts of entering auto, participating in gang activity, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Both men remain held without bond. Two 14-year-old juvenile males were also arrested in connection to the incident.
